This is one of my favorite devices used by groups like AFR and other clowns preaching to vast audiences of know-nothings. Grannies, Lum, did yee know that the Reepublikin Partee wus agin' slavery?! By doggies Abner, no, I did not! Why, Lum, I reckon that means the Reepublikins don't hate and deespise the coloreds after all! Ahbee durn, Abner, I 'spect you're right! Look, I can't tell whether you're actually not an idiot and just want to stir things up or whether you truly believe that the Republican Party should get a 200-year pass on racial and cultural sensitivity because they were the party whose members were largely anti-slavery before the Civil War (sorry, I mean the War of Northern Aggression) and largely anti-KKK after. If it's the former you should probably out yourself so that the rest of us don't go cursing the portion of our property taxes that goes towards public education. Although I suppose it's quite likely that you could have been home-schooled.
Well I asked a simple question what specific policies have Republicans passed that are so racist? No one has been able to answer this question. Also what's wrong with being home schooled? I was not btw but I don't see it as a bad thing.
my mistake for using the word ALL. I later cleared that up in a subsequent post. I don't think you can ignore the fact that there were a lot of black people who voted for Obama or voted for the first time in their lives just because he was the same skin color as them. Actually I take back what I said I dont see anything wrong if it if that is how someone choooses to vote.
Actually I don't think anyone voted for Obama simply because of his skin color. Even people who said they voted for him because he's black. It can still be true that some people voted for him because he's black, but not because of his skin color. I think it has to do with someone who experienced many of the same things that other black people do, and no white people experience. It was somebody that they felt would be able to relate to them in a way no other president has. It isn't that different than the "which candidate would you rather have a beer with" criteria for a presidential candidate.
Although you may be partly right but unfortunately the skin color issue plays a lot big role than you think. In addition if you look at Obama's life its a life of a typical politican. The guy went to Harvard Law and has always lived a more privledged life than your typical american. He didnt face the same hardships that a lot of his voters have to go through. Just think about .. If Obama was Mexican or Latino do you really think so many black people will rally around him like they did? The answer is an obvious no. It's the same reason why you didnt see a bunch of other minorities like latinos with Obama bumper stickers, tshirts, etc. As a latino he would have faced all the same difficulties you mentioned as being black. So the reason why black people related to him was simply because of his skin color. If Obama was latino you can for sure bet that he would have the same effect on the Latino crowd as he did the black crowd. Latino's across the country would have gone insane and a lot of the crazy black support Obama got would have not exisisted. Now i take back what I said earlier. I guess there is nothing really wrong with voting for someone because they are the same skin color as you. It's the exact same reason you see asians blindly rooting for Jeremy Lin and blaming the whole entire knicks team for his recent play. Same reason why you see 60-80 year old filipino women who would never have watched a boxing match in their life if it wasnt for Pacquiao. It's not because they can relate to boxing, it's because they are the same skin color as him and they can relate to that. So yes were partly right Obama has something that a lot of black voters can relate to and that's his skin color.

SRS: the use of the word "simply" is where you're offside. Sure his race played a role. But he's no more black than Jessie Jackson or Herman Cain -- and the former didn't and the latter wouldn't get the same level of support. Not sure what this has to do with him being a muslim though.
Obama did make it into Harvard but unlike most politicians it wasn't a matter of legacy, and wealth that got him there. He had to work hard to make it into his schools. And while his upbringing wasn't poor, it certainly wasn't uber-wealth with tons of connections like most politicians. In addition there are other similarities that Obama would share with Blacks in America that would still make it easier to identify with him. In addition young people voted for Obama more than they normally do. It had to do with his message not just his skin color. If a charismatic Latino came along with the same proposals and speeches as Obama then they would get similar support.
Let's see, blacks find Republican party politics so repulsive that they vote for democrats in national elections by a share of 91-9...so, yes.
I'm tired of hearing people disrespect the POTUS on a personal level. I agree with most in this thread that the Muslim thing is just irritating. But the statement I quoted is incredible denial. And while Sam's post above mine may be true-ish, it doesn't account for all of the blacks that showed up to vote that wouldn't have otherwise. But that does have a lot of positives to it.
Right, so basically, all these black folx tossed their principles aside and merely voted for a guy cause he was black. You've got it the other way around, the whole "hey look at this guy, a BLACK or HISPANIC politician, forget about what his policies are" is a classic Republican move. See Cain, Herman. Why do you think Marco Rubio even exists? So they showed up and voted for a guy who also had policy preferences who matched theirs RACISTS!

It isn't denial. His skin played apart in the experiences Obama has encountered. But it was those perceived experiences more than just the color of his skin that would make someone vote for him. But the color of his skin is probably what would make someone believe he had more similar experiences as they've had. It just depends on how deep you want to look at things.
The phenomenon of blacks being a bunch of robots who merely vote for somebody with dark skin is pretty easy to test, btw, we only need to look at the electoral records of the few black republicans (baylorbear09 exempted here) to see if this causation theory holds up. NOt only do the Michael Steele's and Lynn Swanns of the universe tend to get trounced in the general election, but they are absolutely sh-tstomped by African American voters. This is not surprising at all. The whole "only because you're black" effect apparently doesn't work at all on people if you're a republican .... once you get outsidet he Republican party...which leads me tobelieve it's a lot less pernicious and pervasive as some of the folx here would have us belive and that the "only" qualifier is inaccurate at best...and basically a silly bit of race baiting trolling. Which it is, and that's why various BBS ****sticks like to wave it around a lot.
Exactly. Jesse Jackson didn't get the same support, Herman Caine didn't get the same support, the list goes on and on. I wasn't even addressing that in the original post, because I believed Sunrockets fan was only talking about new voters who turned out for the first time, and not all African American voters.
