I love the reactions this forum has when the Rockets beat a good team. "Damn we're contenders guys, this is real!"
This would be the only reason why i would want Houston to finish the season in the 8th spot. I showed you all the trend from the past games before. I felt they would win tonight and didn't believe it when they did. If the trend were to continue into a series, the Rockets would win 4-1, 4-2.
We can beat ANYONE in a 7 game series.... Unfortunately we can also get beaten by anyone in a 7 game series
Not saying we're contenders, just saying that we can beat one of the best teams in the league in a playoff series.
I'm a lot more confident with the Rockets beating the Thunder in a 7 game series this year than I was with the Rockets beating the Mavs in 05 and us ever beating the Jazz in the playoffs. Just watch the flow of the game and you can see we match up very well with them. With teams like the Spurs or Lakers it'd be an uphill battle all game, but with the Thunder they don't have a superior edge on us for some reason.
We are not contenders. That is clear. But that doesn't make OKC any less beatable. Their defense is not that good and they can be thrown off their game. Also their in game coaching is very average/below average (honestly I think if you switch Rick Carlisle and Scotty Brooks last year, the Thunder win the series). No one is shutting down Durant. Agreed. They're better than us. But when the game is physical and close I can see OKC getting frustrated. And they don't have the defense to win them games.
The same question was asked in 1995 about if the Rockets were able to beat a young and exciting Magic squad.... Never underestimate the heart of a champion. I say Rockets over the Thunder in 5, maybe 6 if they're lucky.
I really think we can take them to 7. But after that it would take a miracle for us to win. We just don't have a game changer
