i love this record - saw it on a bunch of year-end best-of lists so i checked it out and its been in my regular rotation for a few months now. manny, based on all your dub explorations you might really like this too - its shoegazer music drenched in dub textures/riddims. lots of roland space echo. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MH-9_ddFKk8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> i recently stumbled on this website of obscure tapes from africa - been listening to stuff off here all week and loving it... http://www.awesometapes.com/
http://play.converse.com/blog/2012/02/23/doyathing/ "Do ya Thing" is Converse's supergroup song for SXSW. Gorrillaz, James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem, and Andre 3000. There's a shout out to Rap-A-Lot and the Geto Boys at the end of the song. The link has the video and the track download.

No offense to Leonard Cohen, but this will probably be the first new album of 2012 I'll get. Still waiting on Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, and Sigur Ros. Scientist - Heavyweight Dub Champion Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch
Various Artists featuring Sly and Robbie - Raiders of the Lost Dub Alice Coltrane - Journey in Satchidananda
I was going to start a thread asking the question "Is The Clash the most underrated band of all-time?" Honestly, until I bought their greatest hits album I spent my entire life thinking they were a "punk" band. They are anything but that. What a horrible label for such a great band. I'll give you their first album was heavily punk, but everything after that was totally different, unique and trend-setting. <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wqcizZebcaU?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wqcizZebcaU?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object> <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HQwm1v1R-qM?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HQwm1v1R-qM?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object> <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/W6FZwVvS8_8?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/W6FZwVvS8_8?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
Hard to say The Clash is underrated. Sure, if I mentioned them at work or say at a family reunion. I would get a quizzical "what's that' response; but that could be said even for a band like Radio Head. The Clash is very highly regarded by most true Rock-n-Roll fans; and in fact, are quite a favorite amongst the music lovers in this humble forum. I believe there was a recent thread dedicated to The Clash. Truly a great band - and 'London's Calling' (produced by the great and manic Guy Stevens) is a true masterpiece. As far as being considered punk, I would say they transcended that label musically, but remained true to it in regards to their approach and attitude. IMHO their music has easily stood the test of time and that they may be even more influential now than ever.
