Bummer. What about Thabeet? That would leave a difference of about $5mil next year.

Williams has a contract next year with NJ.

So to 'convince' him to play here would require him to opt out of that contract. That is, of course, AFTER convincing him that playing in a brand new stadium in an enormous population base area under a squillionaire owner is something he should walk away from.

Clearly Morey is to blame here.

My point is, it doesn't matter whether he stays or not.

It would be amazing if he did stay. The team would have it's new superstar (and maybe two superstars if Deron Williams decides to join) and something to actually build around.

If he doesn't stay, its rebuild time... something I think everyone knows that this team needs.

    Orlando has two options:

    1) Bring in talent (they failed to do this with GS)
    2) Trade him

They cannot do any thing else. Howard walks at the end of the year.

Oh and about my previous post, I realize the Nets could just extend Deron after Howard was traded to us in a rental (thereby ensuring Howard would go to them in the off season) and and then Howard signs with the Nets.

To try to convince him to stay, which is essentially our reason for trading for him. Only difference is we would need a major talent overhaul in order to simply be in the situation Orlando is currently in.

Nobody important but we will have the go to TANK as hard as one can.
We will finally get legitimate Top 5 draft prospects.... we did not have that luxury for a decade or actually longer.

I don't actually want him to stay IF he does not wish to be here. You can't force this super friend generation guy.
I will be excited to have a TOP 5 draft pick and have Morey finally pick someone from that spot.

    Dwight + J-Rich + Q-Rich + Ish Smith
for Lowry + KMart + Dalembert + Patterson + Morris

Will allow the Magic to compete this year and they'll have cap space for two max contracts in 2013.

    Nelson, Duhon, Lowry (IR)
    KMart, Redick, Wafer
    Hedo, Morris, Harper
    Anderson, Patterson
    Dalembert, Big Baby, Orton

In the process we would probably lose most of Parsons, Motiejunas, Morris, Patterson, the Knicks top10 pick this year.

We can't trade our picks to Orlando because of the New Jersey deal we made. If he leaves and we suck bad next year we get to keep our first round pick because it will still be lottery protected against the Nets and its impossible for us to trade it to Orlando.

Your right. Morey is clearly making a case for the Nets and so are the Clutchfans now too. Heck I want to go to other teams some times some of you make such convincing arguments for other teams.

No way we should give up Lowry for a rental. We have to keep Lowry to have any prayer of keeping Dwight.

The most we should offer is Dragic, Martin, Dalembert, Patterson and Morris for Dwight and Nelson. And definitely not the Knicks pick or the rights to DMo.

I figure a third team is involved so that the Rockets aren't gutted to the core.

Perhaps, Stephen Jackson is re-shipped out of GS to make some of it work.

I have NEVER been a Dwight fan, but I guess it's a gamble. I don't think the Rockets should get raped for everything just to have him a season though.

To me, Lowry, Lee, and Parsons should be untouchable. Their value and salary is too good to get rid of.

I'm not convinced D-will would stay in NJ even if they landed Dwight. He really wants out. Does Dwight really want to play with a supporting cast even worse than Orlando's?

This. Anything more is foolish. That is a solid trade for Dwight.

Not necessarily... I don't think Magic will have roster spots for all of them.

    We will keep some guys.....

Ehh. its a good thought. I would be happy for about a few months. Then probably super ticked off if he left. I am also aware of the tanking and ability to gain cap money in the process of him leaving. If we could work out to somehow keep all those important young guys or most in the process it might still be worth it.

If we somehow get Dwight but dont make the playoffs, what happens to the NJ pick? I know we keep it this year but do we owe it to them next year unprotected? My concern is if Dwight walks, and then we're in tank mode next year, at least is our pick protected?

win= howard stays and we pry away dwill

win= howard is a rental and leaves. with a gutted team and no howard we "circle the drain" for a couple of years and pick up a couple of top 5's in the process.

lose= we do nothing and hold on to our "assets" for the rest of the season and beyond.

I might add it is a small win if we can somehow get rid of those people

    Thabit
    Terrence
    Jonny
maybe Hill for the right price
