It's the only way out of 14................We aren't drafting a star, and who else is left? Steve Nash?

Howard gives the Rockets every thing they need. We have to do serious damage in the playoffs or he would bail.

Can Dragic, Lee, Parsons, Patterson, Dwight win it all. I understand we'd have an insane amount of cap room but giving up Lowry would be really hard.

Yes convince him that we will make a run at Deron Williams who he wants to play with. Have him convince Deron to come instead of Dwight go there. The situations become the same as the Nets have if the Rockets have enough to offer Dwill a max contract. Our roster would still fit Dwight and Dwill better than what would be on the Nets roster.

If we had to take back Hedo or another bad contract, would that necessarily put us over the top this off season such that we could not sign Howard and DWill to max contracts? Does signing both of them hinge on us taking back a bad contract?

If so, can we use our amnesty to get rid of one of those to make room?

Again Dwight never mentioned the Rockets as a landing spot or a place he would sign longterm. You have convince Dwight to stay(Good luck!) and hope NJ doesn't open the vault to DWill so we can sign him.
This is the Heat again only with 2 players, guess why they're both waiting for FA? They can pick where they want to go. Let's see new stadium, Russian Mark Cuban and more potential talent/ I'm sorry I want Dwight as bad as any Rockets fan but it's a long shot.

Yeh, cause a top 5 pick is a guarantee to future prosperity... I've got one word for you - THABEET!

    "absolutely no downside" indeed...

I'm sorry but if you have a great replacement in his position (Dragic) and you have a chance to get a superstar straight up, you do it.

Exactly. And people say if he leaves we can just rebuild.

But rebuild with what? Throught the draft?

Oh wait, we traded our picks to Orlando.

Rebuild with our young players? Oh wait, they're in Orlando.

It's just not worth it, esp since Dwight sounds like he is hell bent on going to New Jersey.

Morey will offer Scola but if you look at their roster they might not even want a PF. If they do it's to swap out Big Baby's contract for Patterson's rookie deal.

We can't amnesty a player we trade for.

It's worth it. Even if the chance is 1%. An injury prone center is not the right direction.

Ok but it is possible to get Dwill here which is what Dwight wants in the first place. If they do the trade to open up enough money to offer the max to Deron next season? Rockets could pitch to Deron to come here instead of the other way around where Dwight goes there. Nothing different. its just us doing it in reverse if it worked out to convince Dwight on that scenario.

The only reason I believe this report is that we are one of the few teams that can take Hedo and have enough players to match salaries in some interesting ways.... if we bring in a 3rd team that likes Scola or Martin then we can really make the Magic listen by shipping one of those off for a draft pick to send to ORL.

For example: Since Minnesota values K-Mart, include them as a 3rd team....
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7cvf9tb is how I can see a 3 team deal happening where Minnesota upgrades the 2012 2nd to a 1st and sends it to ORL along with whichever 1st we are allowed to send.

ORL gets two 1st rounders / Scola for a few years / $20 mil in expiring (once you buyout Dalembert) and we clear out Hedo for them, netting them $30 mil more in cap space then they would have had (minus what it would take them to sign their draft picks) top start the 2013 season.

That's an overwhelming deal given the circumstances, I don't even think a 2nd first round pick would have to be included. Maybe just ship the Minnesota 2nd as is and we can try and get something back from Minnesota ourselves.

First of all we will have to ACT instead of TALKING about potential rentals or TRADES. And it takes two for a trade.

IMO .... Dwight's roll the dice method is a huge blow for potential trades... so we are left as one of the only teams.

    Orlando might roll the dice.

No. But I can assure you that if the Rockets can get Dwight Howard with Scola/Martin/Lowry, they can guarantee some serious prosperity THIS SEASON.

And I'd prefer to have the gamble of Dwight Howard for this year+top 5 pick over desperately trying to land a superstar via a 10-15th pick and/or hoping the next superstar FA wants to play in Houston.

The part I find most confusing... Why do people think he would put forth any effort here? If he's a rental for the rest of the season, has a guaranteed max contract waiting for him in NJ in the offseason... why would he bust his butt here? People get all twisted on Kmart's apparent 'just going through the motions' attitude... Why expect more from Howard?
