The Rockets can actually offer the Magic a tempting deal of young players without impacting their future cap.

Turk, Nelson, Davis, J-Rich, and Q-Rich are the salary dump candidates.

Turk and Nelson only have one more guaranteed year.

I hate the idea of renting players.

We're gutting our team + our future (if we include picks) for a player that might not stay past this season.

    If only there was insurance.

I wish it would work out that way but there are too many "Ifs". The way I see it Dwill re-ups with NJ and Dwight joins him not the other way around. The one thing that I do agree with as other posters have mentioned is that we're forced to rebuild.

Why would Dwight want to come to Houston? The magic are better than the rockets

Dude.... the Nets potentially have a GOLD MINE draft pick this year to offer. That is worth it alone. Just think about it. The Nets are one of the worst teams in the league.

Just imagine if the Nets get lucky too and get the #3 pick and take Harrison Barnes. If they get Dwight in free agency they are looking at a lineup of

    DWill, Farmar
    Brooks, Morrow, Stevenson
    Harrison Barnes(?), Williams
    Lopez, Williams
    Howard, Petro

-You have to be kidding me. Orlando better force New Jersey to trade him ASAP.

Dwight Howard? Sure. Bring him in for one season. Maybe he drags someone else along with him if we gut half the team to get him. That might also open up some cash next year to keep him here and offer a max contract to his favorite running buddy of choice. Then offer him the best contract possible out of all teams.

That's what I'm thinking too. Although Parson is playing well, I feel like there's another reason why Parson is getting his minutes.

I really hope we don't give up Lowry, the Knick's pick, or any future lottery picks (so lottery protect any picks we give). Everything else is fine by me.

That logic, why would he want to go to the Nets? Orlando is better than them. Dwight Howard is the reason they are such a good team. Without him they would not be playoff team.

Subtract Dwight and the Magic would be lucky to beat the Bobcats.

Why would the Nets even offer anything? Dwight has already came out and said he wants to go there. All they have to do is resign DWill and wait.

....... If they can pick whomever..... then who is staying to convince Howard that THIS IS HIS TEAM to lead to a championship?

I thought Howard was only staying with a Contender?
Houston Magic where we have less talent than the Magic and Howard.

Are you implying that a package of, say, Parsons, Motiejunas, NY's #1 pick, and one of our own future picks, and our 09er expirings would make Orlando mediocre?

If the Rockets rent Dwight Howard, they will not want to actually trade their current core of vets. Because they want to make a splash in the post-season. The Gasol trade would've involved our core because the Lakers aren't rebuilding. For you to just simply assume Morey's package for Howard rental and Gasol trade makes no sense.

Look at a trade from both team's perspective please, not just one side.

Why would D Will want to stay there if we can resign Dwight and offer Dwill a max contract to come play with Dwight Howard in another large market?

    For multitude of reasons.

    1) Best case we win a title, he resigns with us
    2) Win a title, he leaves
    3) Don't win crap, he stays. You are still good because he is superstar talent
    4) Don't win crap, he leaves. You are immediately gutted, but took a calculated gamble. Now you can tank a season and get a top 5 pick and become great again.

That's why, there is absolutely no downside to trading for a superstar rental imo.

T-Mac still haunting the Rockets. Magic hesitant to trade another star player to Houston, afraid history repeats itself.

Think about it? Wouldnt Houston be a contender if Howard convinces Dwill to sign in Houston and they still have some of these guys after the deal?

    Lee
    Dragic
    Parsons
    Patterson

.....Do you have a master plan to retain Howard with the scrubs leftover from the deal?

The Nets pick will be backMorey's end lottery if they run a D-will + Howard combo for the rest of the season. It'll be about the same as Knicks pick.
