We need a new cap expert, or whoever the old cap expert was needs to be fired. Not necessarily saying Mario should have been signed but we shouldn't in our current cap position.
What cap experts basically do is tell the GM how to construct a contract that that it's even(spread out over the years), frontloaded(pay now get bargain later), or backloaded(kind of like using a credit card). Cap expert can't pump money out of nowhere. They can only distribute the timing of cap hits. The Texans have generally been frontloading or evenly distribute their contracts over the years. If they're near the cap right now, then it's on purpose in order to avoid cap trouble down the road. Believe me, any good math guy with knowledge of the NFL CBA can create a ton of capspace this year if the Texans want to. They'll suffer down the road. But it's doable if they wish.
Texans seem to be doing nothing. Other teams making moves while we stand pat...not even any news of anything other thanw cutting players we could use and keeping jadummy Jones and kareem damnson who taught you how to defend
JasonLaCanfora: Mario Williams not expected to sign in BUF tonight. Will take time with the visit and has at least one other visit scheduled #freeagency Barwin's last tweet was "twitter is awesome" hmmm.
Nope. If he wanted to give us a hometown discount, he'd already be resigned. He saw Texans' absolute best offer and still went for free agency. He is gone. I'll bet money he went to Buffalo just to get the starting number for the bidding. Now he sees if he can get a franchise like Chicago, Seattle, or NE to match. No one really wants to play in Buffalo, and I'm sure he remembers how miserable it is to be the best player on a crummy defense. They're just patsies establishing his price tag.
At this time last year we were also doing nothing and everyone (myself included) was screaming about it. What followed was the best offseason in franchise history.
and when Wade Phillips was hired 95% of the fan base considered the Texans organization a complete joke (see this thread). Hell, you had a few fans threatening to jump off the fan base. oh, if they only lived up to their words. it's just a testament to the fact that none of us really know as much as we think we do. we're 50/50 at best at guessing what is good/bad for the team. even the organizations (full of supposedly experts) get it wrong a lot of times...but as armchair GMs everyone is apparently an expert.
It sucks for us fans, but 99% of us would go for the biggest payday if in the same situation. This is probably his last contract. It would be nice to have him back, but I don't think he was ever really excited about playing OLB in a 3-4 to begin with. The Bills technically run a 3-4, but mostly ran a 4-3 as the season progressed last year. You know they'll run it fulltime if they sign Mario.
