La Canfora and Lombardi supposedly said on NFL network that they expect Mario to leave Buffalo with a deal tonight.

[rquoter]Source tells me there's a growing sentiment amongst current #Bills players that the Mario Williams deal has a good chance of happening.[/rquoter]

[rquoter]The Bills want to make Williams the highest-paid defensive player in the league, with a deal better than the six-year, $91.5 million contract that Julius Peppers signed with the Bears in 2010. The Bills’ offer to Williams will apparently include more than $91.5 million in total money, more than the $40.5 million in the first three years that the Bears gave Peppers, and more than the $42 million guaranteed that the Bears gave Peppers.

Buffalo’s full-court press for Williams started with G.M. Buddy Nix and defensive coordinator Dave Wannstedt flying to North Carolina to pick Williams up, and Williams is now having dinner with Nix, Wannstedt, CEO Russ Brandon, head coach Chan Gailey and defensive tackle Kyle Williams. The whole gang will try to get Williams to sign tonight, or tomorrow morning at the latest.[/rquoter]

To hell with that, they can have him.

We would have to gut the team over the next 2 years for a guy we proved we're still great without.

Now I can see why Cliff Avril was pissed about being franchised.

91.5 million reasons, make it ok for him, and I don't blame him.

Time to focus on getting Peyton/Wayne in Texans unis.

Did I misread, or did someone say that the franchise on Mario would have been like $22 million? If so, not so sure what to hate? Will a Mario to Buffalo deal include more than $22 million of guaranteed money with the signing bonus and first year?

Now that it's a reality, Mario leaving stings a little more than I thought it would. It's gonna be weird seeing him in a different uniform :(

So someone explain this to me. I understand the Texans had to get under the cap before FA began, hence the Vickers and Winston cuts but if Mario leaves he of the huge cap hit last year, won't the Texans have quite a bit or at least some cap space?

No mario is completely off the books, his salary has already come off out cap number.

Good for Mario on likely getting more money than any defensive player in history, but in hindsight, may not have been the best def. player on the team or even the 2nd . . . (thru 1st 5 games, Cushing & Joseph were more valued) History shows overpaying for good talent usually does not meet expectations. - we became a great def. unit without him, and that will continue.
