Anyone a fan of this guy's music? He's from Houston (went to Elkins and HSPVA) and his new album, Black Radio, is a great mix of jazz, hip hop, and R&B. Here's a track from the new album he did with Lupe Fiasco and Bilal-- <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qOj_90wYK8Y" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Same track as above performed live on Letterman-- <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/FIXKbUCC-bU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Yes. He's very good. I actually know him fairly well. (He used to stop by HSPVA quite often.) I like his albums Canvas and In my Element the most, however, I don't think those albums would have the same kind of public appeal. Not to detract from Glasper, but another great pianist and incredible human being from HSPVA is Jason Moran. He has become a leading voice in the Jazz world. He just recently won a McArthur genius grant and has become the new artistic adviser at the Kennedy Center. There are TONS of HSPVA graduates making big statements in music, and the school continues to produce top notch artists. (Even Beyonce went there) Thanks for recognizing this talented Houston musician!
