No offense to anyone but ClutchFans highly overrates the players value on the Rockets. We had a great deal of getting Gasol but the reason being is that the Lakers were getting Chris RuPaul. We just don't have the trade pieces. One poster mentioned to trade Dragic or "whoever" to get Evan Turner. That just isn't going to happen. Not many of the trades that are proposed are going to happen. We need a third team to trade with. We need to stop living in a dream world where we overvalue the Rockets "assets." Don't get me wrong, I love the Rockets and I'm not trying to burst anyone's bubble but at some point you have to face the facts.

Didn't Adelman say recently that Morey told him he favored trading for Rubio even though it would have meant the Rockets being really bad in the short term. It seems more and more like the demand to be a winning team no matter was is a directive coming from the owner. It doesn't matter though. Let's just say the entire Rockets management -- which includes both Alexander and Morey -- has failed to turn the ship around in the last 3 years.

You know whats a more realistic scenario?

"Hey, as the boss of this hamburger restaurant, I demand you make hamburgers."

"Hey boss, I think hotdogs are a better option for success".

"I want to be successful whiles making Hamburger, if you can't do it I'll hire someone else who can".

You don't think that they've discussed tanking?

If Morey thinks (as he allegedly does) that tanking is better for the long-term success of the franchise, it's his job to convince the owner to do it. I don't care if he does get fired for it. Maybe he tried and failed. Maybe he was afraid to try. Maybe he actually thinks he can win without losing. It doesn't really matter. When you're evaluating leaders, you look at results not mitigating factors. I'm not interested in parsing how much to blame Morey and how much Les.

agree with OPs sentiment... go get Josh Smith and either Bogut/SJax or Okafor/pick ... Retain KLow, CLee, DMo, Parsons... and lets go from there next year...

Funny, I started a thread a few months back that Leslie was to blame yet people defended him like crazy. Now that people blame Morey, it's Leslie ?? What a bunch of girls we are, finger pointing and stuff. Give it a rest, nothing will change of Leslie does not want it. Period!

He should have said, "But boss this is James Coney Island. If you wanted hamburgers you should have bought Whatalaker!"

The bottom line is if Morey didn't believe in it a little bit and did it anyway that is just a lousy GM. And if Les is that controlling than why did he hire Morey and all of these stat geeks to begin with. And why does Les praise Morey so much if he has no faith in him. WHy hire a Moneyball guy if you are not going to listen to him. Les is not a complete hands off coach but no one was telling Adelman or JVG how to coach (Except Yao's minutes) and you have to beleive Les would be giving his GM a somewhat similar rope to hang himself on.

While you may have no personal stake in Morey's employment; I can only imagine remaining the General Manager of the Rockets is high on his list.

What has changed? From the first of the year we absolutely knew that the Rockets would be in a losing streak the two weeks leading up to the deadline. We just didn't know we'd have such a good record leading up until that time. It seems like 90% of the posts are "trade so-and-so" and if that's the prevailing attitude. it's going to impact the team. Management made it much worse last year, but has been completely professional this year. Still, there is a residual effect from a sensationalistic approach to trading in the past, and the vocal majority of what should be fans just tries to out-do each other denigrating our players. When the players on a team know that nobody is on their side, they can come together and play great. But they usually don't.

Let me translate that for you...

    There, that makes more sense.

No, it's called doing your job. This is stupid, I could understand where Morey's criticism comes but saying that "he shouldn't be doing what his boss is telling him to do" is by far the stupidest thing I have ever heard from any mature person.

And what do you mean why Les hired Morey? Les hired Morey when we had Yao and McGrady healthy, and he obviously thinks Morey is a capable GM that's why he hired him. Also, Les praises Morey because he HAS faith in him, nobody says he doesn't. I don't get any of your argument, it's as if you are trying to pin point some conspiracy that doesn't exist.

Also, your last sentence is based on nothing. We know that Les doesn't want to tank, we know that Les wants to win games. You don't think that's a tight leash?

I don't think the players (whoever is on the roster now and after the deadline) and the coach would "wave the white flag." They may or may not have the talent, but most of the guys are going to still try. As for management, I am not sure this changes their thinking all that much. I guess that, if Lowry was healthy, the team might try to add a "short term reinforcement" to increase playoff odds while Lowry's illness makes such an addition a less sensible. However, management has always said that they would not mortgage the future for the present, so I think the kind of moves they were, and are, contemplating are ones that would make sense for future seasons rather than ones that only make sense for the remainder of the current one.

Didn't need to. Coach saw how terrible they were in practice and that was good enough for him. It's not as if they would have magically blossomed into legitimate NBA players simply by playing in real games against real NBA players.

Morey drafted a guy who played PF in college but insisted that he could be a legitimate NBA SF and then they shipped him off to the NBADL while keeping the 09 draft busts on the roster. I must admit that there is madness to that method.

This has been going on for years now so you should be used to it.

Those folks aren't true fans because they do not subscribe to Rocketsheep mantra: Anyone who doesn't drink the red koolaid, think Morey is a genius, blame the past 6 years on Tmac & Yao breaking down and who dares to expect results on the court is NOT a true Rockets' fan.

But in his defense, he's such a dynamite after dinner speaker...

It's not Daryl's fault because: Choose one: (A) Tmac & Yao broke down (B) Les has tied Daryl's hands and won't let him rebuild the team (C) Stern F'd Daryl by nixing his trade for Gasol which would have automatically resulted in the signing of Nene which would have then catapulted them into the NBA championship mix. (D) This is Daryl's first year without Yao so he is finally free to reshape the team as he sees fit. (E) Tmac & Yao broke down.

Well it's not all that bad. After all, Alexander can no longer blame JVG for lack of attendance at TC. For the record, I am and was not a JVG fan at all, but I believe he did not cause the fans to shy away from TC.

You're forgetting something. The actual response Morey got was "Maybe, but I don't care. I personally do not like hot dogs, and I am not going to sell them. Make me money with hamburgers or I'll find someone who will."

You can't seriously think that Morey hasn't, many times, pointed out how much more effective it is to tank and rebuild. Les is old and is just not interested in rebuilding.

Do you really think Les told Morey to get Twill. Do you really think Les told Morey to trade Battier for Thabeet. Do you believe Les told Morey to cut Lin. Do you believe Les told Morey to trade for Flynn. Do you believe Les told Morey to draft Morris. Do you believe Les told Morey to get a red truck and chase Bosh around. Do you really believe Les runs the show and Morey is just his puppet man. If so then Morey is irrelevant and need not be mentioned anymore than a low leveled trainer.

Are you that naive or just stupid?

Do you even follow the Rockets or are you just flinging crap around hoping some of them are pertinent to the discussion?

Flynn wasn't Morey's target, the pick was. The pick that got us D-Mo? The same deal that got rid of Brad Miller?

Battier for Thabeet and pick is a no brainer, the pick was again the target of the deal (the same pick that we eventually used to get D-Mo) because Battier was an expiring. We either get something out of him or nothing, what would you pick?

Chasing for Bosh? What's wrong with that? Bosh is a good player, and a legitimate all-star. He's doing pretty well in Miami is he not?

I don't get what you are implying, some of those moves didn't turn out well, some did. What's your point?

By the way, what do you think happens when we fire Morey? You probably haven't thought this far because you think "Morey shouldn't do what Les asks him to do". Les will hire somebody that will follow his principles, and the Rockets will be at the exact same spot.

Stop being such a p***y and read what I say. Or just block me if I annoy you so much. I didn't say his moves were good or bad and didn't say why he did them. I am not even advocating firing Morey. If you would really read my posts you would know that. All I am stating is Morey is shaping the team in his own manner and Les is not dictating his every move. That gives him a lot of responsibility. Not all is his fault and he has had some success but the bottom line is we are a mediocre team with no immediate opportunity to get better and some of that lies on the GM. If you do not agree with me fine. But nothing you have said in your insulting (yes you started the insulting) changes my opinion. So go find someone else who gives a **** about what you have to say.
