Hello to my fellow Clutchfans, One of the great things that the company I started to work for last year does is actively participate in local and national charities for various causes. This past holiday season we support a local charity that helped women and children from abusive homes. This spring we are are working with Autism Speaks a national organization dedicated to the research, education and treatment of autism in children and adults. I will be along with my fellow co-workers participating in a walk at the Rose Bowl on April 21, 2012. I know that times are tough for many of us here but I am sure that everyone of us has had autism touch their own family or a close friends family in some way and requesting for those who can to help sponsor me for the walk next month. You can donate online and it is tax deductible at the following website to sponsor me: http://www.walknowforautismspeaks.org/losangeles/shrirambhat If you are not able to donate please help spread the message via facebook, twitter, email etc to your family and friends using the above link. Again the link is: http://www.walknowforautismspeaks.org/losangeles/shrirambhat Thank you all so much
Thanks for sharing this, Yoyo. Every dollar counts, so if anyone else wants to donate I'm sure anything is appreciated.
thanks to all that have helped so far (including our very own Rockets' GM) i've set my initial goal for 350 but i am hoping to reach 500.
Autism Speaks is by far the best organization when it comes to research, raising awareness, and promoting policy for people and families of people with autism. Way better than the joke that is The Autism Society of America.
hey sorry guys I just found out from a friend that there is a min donation of 20 dollars which is set by the foundation and website. I talked to my HR dept and they were also just made aware and was upset too because its not proper to set a min amount. If anyone is willing to donate at least 20 dollars please do so from the link above...if someone wants to donate but cant donate that 20 - until we get in touch with the foundation and web hosts - shoot me an email through the board and lets try to work something out. thanks again for all the support
Today is National Autism Awareness day I just thought I would bump this as I am getting closer to my goal of trying to raise 1k before my walk in 3 weeks. For those who've helped thank you for your kindness and help. I really appreciate it.
As a father of a child with Autism, I'd just like to say there is not nearly as much being done to fund autism research. The number of children being diagnosed with autism has increased significantly recently. There is now 1 in every 88 children diagnosed with autism and 1 in every 54 boys. It has been a constant uphill battle to try and get my insurance to to cover the therapy my son needs despite being a loyal employee with for almost 10 years. My wife and I are continuing to try and find help anywhere we can but there are not many programs to help out families with autistic children. Despite Governor Perry signing a bill that every insurance company should cover aba therapy, self-funded insurances do not cover it because it considered expiramental. Please help in anyway you can and spread awareness. Many parents think their children are delayed and do not get the child evaluated. There are warning signs and milestones children should reach by a certain age. Go to www.autismspeaks.org website and read up on autism. It continues to get overlooked despite the alarming number of children being diagnosed with it every day. Thanks, everybody!
One last final bump My walk is this Saturday and I am looking very forward to it though I plan to strut instead of walk the entire 5k. Thank You for all of those who have generous donated and for those who wish to still help make a difference - you get far more karma points donating to this (and can write it off on your taxes) instead of giving your money to a troll For those who wish to still help please follow the link below: http://www.walknowforautismspeaks.org/losangeles/shrirambhat hopefully the collective good karma from everyone here will translate into the Rockets actually playing the third quarter in games. Thanks Again
bump, help the great Yoyo reach his goal, today's the last day for donations. Have a cousin with autism and this is a great cause.
Thanks everyone I've hit my "goal" but that number is arbitrary any donations for this worthy cause are always accepted - I do not want people to feel like 'oh he hit his goal i dont need to donate' please do anyway
This is a special population that I've spent a good bit of time with. For the last year I've been working as a substitute teacher. I've just been asked to finish out the schoolyear in an elementary classroom with 8 autistic boys. I've worked with the class 8-10 days in the past so 5-6 straight weeks should be interesting.
