he's not getting traded. my investment in my son's Lowry jersey looks solid.

actually, i believe there are restrictions on trading guys who are "injured." right?

The other team has the right to waive the physical if Lowry is traded.

The Rockets can't publicly say so, but Lowry's sickness has probably thrown a wrench into their trade strategy. While they were sending signals that Lowry would not be traded, I think that was a ploy to keep his trade value high.

They'll probably make a deal for a future draft pick or something and give us the same old line: "We've upgraded our future and positioned ourselves to make a big move in the summer".

I understand that but I don't think it would make the Rockets (or any team for that matter) look heartless to trade a sick player. He'll be fine in a couple weeks and the trade deadline is thurs. If we had the chance to upgrade our team by trading Lowry are we supposed to nix the trade because he's ill?

given that Howard looks like he's staying put through the deadline and will likely test the market in the offseason, doesn't this trade deadline have to be about maintaining cap flexability, while adding at least one impact player that would help attract Howard in the offseason? Rather than putting $18 mil towards Gasol (and giving up Lowry in the process), wouldn't it be better to trade for a guy like Josh Smith, who would do as much to attract Howard (if not more), give us a top 10 pf while improving our interior defense, cost $8 mil less, wants to be here, and would likely not cost us Lowry?

that's a far better plan than pursuing a 32 year old Pau Gasol.

I couldn't agree more. Lakers wont trade for Lowry cause they want to win this year and 2 weeks and playoffs is just not enough time to gel. Same goes for renting Dwight. If we rented Dwight, we might not even make the playoffs. If Dragic were included in any deal, Flynn would be our only PG for atleast 10 games. Just not fathomable.

In my opinion, its time to pull the plug. Move Lowry to Sacramento and get thier pick. Take on Okafor and get thier pick. Send Martin and Scola to Milwaukee for thier pick and expirings, so they can knock NY out of the playoffs.

    That could potentially be the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 14th and 15th picks.

Package those five picks and move up as far as you can and play youngsters. This model just isn't working and the fans don't like this team even though it is competitive.

Play young, suck and get another good pick next year. That should give you a legit core to build around and cap space once Okafor expires.

    Its time to start over.

He's not injured. He's sick so I think another team would have to just look at his illness as a passing problem that isn't chronic. Teams waive physicals sometimes (Rockets choose not to trade for Amar'e because the Suns asked them to waive one)

Looks like this trade deadline will be really exciting... sarcasm flag

We should trade our guys for picks and move up in this draft. 8th seed won't get us anywhere

That (Lakers get scola, dragic, thabeet, budinger, morris and NY 1st rd for pau gasol, jason kapono, troy murphy and steve blake) was something a BSPN'er wrote that "should happen". Nothing to see here. Keep moving.

[rQUOTEr]* The Lakers are said to be serious about trading Pau Gasol in the right deal, with the emphasis on saving on future payroll. But Rockets guard Kyle Lowry being out 2-4 weeks with a bacterial infection may have put the brakes on a potential Gasol-to-Houston deal. If the Lakers could've gotten a healthy Lowry, rival executives believe it would've eased the loss of Gasol. Luis Scola has been showing signs of age, but while he has two guaranteed years totaling $19.6 million left, that's about half what Gasol is owed over the next two seasons. In any event, the Lakers need to be aware that an obvious cost-saving trade as opposed to a basketball-upgrade trade would send the wrong message to Kobe Bryant, who is running out of time to chase his sixth championship to equal Michael Jordan's mark. "If they're going to send a message to Kobe Bryant that they're not about winning, they're about money," one league source said, "that's going to set off a whole new deal."[/rQUOTEr]
