For many of you that have watched the rockets for the last decade, which coach do you believe did the best job. I understand that all three coaches had different talent to work with and I also understand that McHale hasn't had much time to broadcast his talents (ex: playoff series). But, based on what we've seen so far, who has been the better over all coach for the Houston Rockets in your opinion.
Really hard to say since McHale hasn't even been here a whole season. Both JVG and RA have proven to be great coaches (knicks, blazers, kings) but to me JVG wins the award for the Rockets. Sigh..I remember when this team use to have top notch defense.
The Fuehrer... I still have dreams about that '08-'09 squad and its glorious playoff run prior to the collapse of the Great Wall.
Its probably not fair to compare McHale to those guys at this stage. Between Adelman and JVG, I would say the better overall coach was Adelman.
Adelman.... McHale denies that the game of basketball has evolved since his time JVG is a great coach, but better suited for the Eastern Conference
JVG? Are you serious? I love JVG, but as far as coaching goes his offense was just pick and roll all day. Meaning without superstars or all-stars his team would suck. Adelman's offense was beautiful he can literally take any team with any medley of players and turn them into contenders. McHale just flat out sucks.
Adelman won a playoff series without Tmac, and when the other team had home court advantage. JVG had home court and a healthy Yao and Tmac and blew it every time. McHale is horrible. DD
Van Gundy's 4th best scoring option was Luther Head and the refs put the hit on the team. By the time Adelman got here Head was on his way to being cut and that ref scandal was just coming to light.
He had home advantage every year, up 2-0 on Dallas and coming home is home court advantage, and although we finished 5th in the first year we had home court against the Jazz too Dd
From a casual fan standpoint JVG's style was boring as hell to watch. Suffocating defense, but that offense was unbearable to watch most of the time (with the exception of a few moments). I've had my fair share of disagreements with Adelman's (we're buddies apparently) decision making with his roster, but same could be said with JVG. All in all, I can't decide.
In fairness to JVG, when you're building an offense around players like Yao and McGrady the offense is going to be boring. Its not like we would have have run a motion offense with Adelman coaching those guys.
I feel Adelema is the beast of the bucnh. But what it's worth. McHale is maintaining basically the same record Adelman had his last 2 years. In fact we were under .500 this time last year. Mediocrity is mediocrity, coaches can only do so much.
