Depeche Mode and New Order are awesome. I'm a very big New Wave fan.

One day at Toyota Center, I got there early.

They played Depeche Mode, and it was awesome, except it was Just Can't Get Enough.

My friend's wife is a huge Depeche Mode fan. So she made him take her to their concert when they passed through Vegas. He's a Heavy Metal, jock type guy and really was out of his element at the show.
I asked him how the concert went and he groused that "she made us sit in the gay section." I asked him what part of the venue was that and he's said "the whole !@#$ing place!"

Obligatory "DM has NOT been the SAME since Alan Wilder LEFT!"

    And they haven't been.

Love all their stuff up through the big album that had "Enjoy the Silence" and "Policy of Truth". Sorta stopped listening to them after that one. "People Are People" is my all-time favorite song by them.

I loved Depeche Mode for a long time. I think Black Celebration is still one of the greatest albums of all time.

They started going downhill for me around Music for the Masses. That album started going into the mainstream, and the cover of Route 66 left a lot to be desired.

Then came what I felt was there demise. I hated the song Personal Jesus. I still don't like it much. Some synth group trying to act tough with guitars in their songs was ridiculous, and I couldn't stand that song.

But my dislike of that song caused me to ignore them for a while. There were other good songs on Violator. I love Enjoy the Silence, Policy of Truth, World in My Eyes etc.

Then I don't think the albums after that had too much going for them. Depeche Mode was largely irrelevant.

Then came Playing the Angel. They were older, but they made music that was natural to them and were relevant again because they weren't just trying to recapture what they had before, nor were they simply trying to be different for the sake of being different. It was a good album.

Songs of Faith and Devotion actually had some good songs on it and Ultra is an excellent album. Never heard Exciter. Playing the Angel was excellent and Sounds of the Universe was terrible from what I heard. Funny how U2 and Depeche Mode were basically trying to become more like each other.

Hello, me too, but I thought it was 1988? Opened with OMD.

I've seen them live 14 times. Loved all albums up until after Exciter. Playing the Angel was ok, but the new one is awful imo.

Whomever said they haven't been the same since Alan left, you are so correct.

They were at Astroworld in 86 with Book of Love who was new and unknown at the time.

They may have also been in 88. 88 was the tour with OMD. Sadly on that tour Gahan's heroin problems hurt their performance, and while it was a good show, it didn't match up to previous ones, IMHO.

Wasn't the '88 show the one that was in the 101 Doc/Movie?

It might be. It was around that time for sure. The 88 show was the tour for Music for the Masses.

I've only seen them twice but my first time was the 1988 one with OMD. That was totally awesome since I love OMD too.
Then a few years ago at the Toyota Center. 2005 I believe. I guess that's not just a few years ago, but didn't realize it had been that long.

Yeah it hasn't been until within the past 5 years that I've gone back and started appreciating Songs of Faith and Devotion or Ultra.
