It's actually exactly the opposite of what you're complaining about here.

Nobody is using PER as a be-all end-all eval of Rudy Gay (though it nicely encapsulates the inherent "efficiency" of having a guy play 40 minutes, go 8-20, draw 2-3 fouls, and grab 5 boards). He is what he is - a guy who plays a lot of minutes, takes a lot of shots to get you 19 points (because he specializes in the worst shot in basketball) and does very little else. A mediocre rebounder, an adequate at-best defender, not much of a passer, and terrible at drawing contact. What else is there that I'm missing? Clue me in. I get that he gets the occasional "help"/weakside shotblock but this isn't especially prolific.

His "ability to hit big shots" is kind of a giant myth and literally falls apart after any close examination. I mean just watch the damned games. Yes, he occasionally takes (and hits) the 20 foot jumper for the win. He's done this all of four times in 8 years. Probably the reason why he takes this shot is that teams are overwhelmingly willing to give it to him - I sure would if I were a coach.

But that's beside the point. The problem is that this magical clutch ability of his appears to be deployed at such exceedingly rare intervals that it seems to be. Also, like I said before, if you subscribe to the "inner clutchnessitude" theory - I personally don't - you can't help but draw very negative inferences about his lack of opportunities if you do.

He's an above-average player. Borderline all-star (def. on the wrong side of the border...) but that's it.

    Keith Van Horn...how u?

Its worth pointing out for those who don't bother to click on the link that the primary target of that trade wouldn't have been reacquiring Rudy Gay but rather acquiring their No. 2 pick in the draft.

Which is why I said "as part of a package deal."

When you leave out the details of the rest of the package deal to focus on "Battier for Gay", its leaves one with the false impression that the rest of the trade proposal was pretty much equal value. Not saying that was intentional on your part, but I thought a clarification was necessary.

Rudy did not show us he was on KD's level tonight. Thank god OJ Mayo was able to bail them out.

As usual larsv8, you don't know what you're talking about. He hurt himself early in the game and was playing through it before he was taken back to the locker room for good.

Lucky break for Memphis if he misses a few weeks.

Tracy Murray was traded to Houston once "as part of a package deal." Was he on Otis Thorpe's level?

I never said Rudy Gay was on Durant's level. I said the exact opposite, but you wouldn't know that since you're trolling. This is the most recent Rudy Gay thread so we're discussing his play here rather than start a new thread. Next time read through the thread and stop being a troll.

Update- @rudygay22 was evaluated for possible concussion. Did show signs & will be re-evaluated Monday. Rudy said he doesn't remember much

Prime example of the over-the-top hate for the guy when people criticize him for playing poorly during a head injury. Hope he's ok.

You need to calm down. Read the thread title that's what people are posting about.

He hit his head colliding with Nene. Didn’t look right at all after it.

Where did I sound emotional or uncalm? Read the post I was replying to. It had nothing to do with Kevin Durant vs. Rudy Gay. Nobody here except ‘what’ thinks Rudy Gay is on Durant’s level. A lot of these posts are just talking about Rudy Gay as a player in general, and some of the responses, including “Rudy Gay is pretty bad”, “Rudy Gay is pretty much the same as Martin,” “Memphis caught a break if he’s out,” are laughable to anyone with any general basketball knowledge.

Larsv8 was not watching the game, but was quick to post the second it was over that Gay played poorly. So that was just one example of people who have their mind made up that he sucks and are desperate to prove it, often times not even watching the game. He did the same thing before that Warriors game was over where Rudy Gay took over the game down the stretch and won it for them, and ended up looking silly. You need to read what’s going on in the thread before responding.

What do you think about people who have said Rudy Gay is on Durant's level?

Well, if your memory can ever manage to stretch back to about 10 posts above mine(written by you), you'd know I wasn't talking about Rudy Gay on Durant's level either.

The next time you post, at least try to refresh your memory of posts you made of the last few hours.
