When your offense pretty much goes 3 and out until the last 5 minutes of the game, your defense will look bad on paper. Denver's defense is pretty stout.
That defense is what kept them in games long enough for Tebow to surprise other teams in the last 5 minutes. When you have a Tight End playing Quarterback, chances are, you are going to suck for a large portion of the game, which puts more stress on your defense. That's why their stats don't jive with their performance.
QFT They were #6 in preventing third down conversions (33.5%) and #6 in 4th downs as well (33.3%) Defenses are like pitchers in that if they see too many downs, it falls apart.
am i a bad person for wanting the broncos to get manning and screw over tebow by cutting or trafing him? and then after that manning sucks because of the injury and the broncos wind up with egg on their face abd spend the next offseason begging for a way to draft matt barkley? oh and having tebow goto kc or something and beating them twice a year. sorry for the rant. my hatred of the 90s Broncos is still alive apparently
i honestly am not that impressed with their defense. they always seemed to miss or allow the big play on 3rd down.
I kinda hope that Peyton really can't play, knows it, and this "free agency" is just an elaborate ploy to screw Bud Adams. Take $10MM to hold a clipboard in Nashville, Peyton. I will love you for it.
You can find some random stat that makes them look good, but they weren't a good offensive or defensive team so it must have been god who got them into the playoffs. Well maybe it is just football. In a span of 16 games things can happen that can't happen in a 162 game or 81 game season and bad teams have a better chance of succeeding in the nfl than any other league. Just for example a nfl team that should win 30% of its games has a 7% chance of winning 8 games. A baseball team that should win 30% of its games has 8e-6% chance of winning 81 games. A bad football team has 10000 times better chance of being good than a bad baseball team. If peyton goes there he can take them to playoffs, but denver really is not a good football team.
I'm really not sure what you're trying to say. Emjohn's stats were hardly random....Third and Fouth Down Conversion Rate is akin to OBP in baseball. It gives you a much better overall impression of a defense outside of just total yards and points. Again, with that crappy offense, that defense was forced to do WAY more than an average NFL defense is expected. When a defense is out there constantly since their offense is going 3 and out every time, they are going to give up more yards than normal. I would say they are the best defense in their division, and will probably continue to improve under John Fox.
After all the 'Peyton wants to hurry up and make a decision by Tuesday or Wednesday' talk, ESPN has backtracked and said not so fast. Mort reports Peyton is 'exhausted' from all that has gone on and is not ready to make a decision. Peyton will not be forced into a bad decision. He'll be surprised if Peyton has a decision by tomorrow or even this week. If he doesn't feel comfortable making a decision this week, new teams could surface.
Looks to me like it's going to be Arizona. Nice weather, beautiful stadium, Fitz. Reggie Wayne can join him there, Kolb should be cut - he isn't worth the money. This seems like a no-brainer.
This is the more likely scenario...He needs a good OL to protect him and honestly a 70% PM is Better than most 100% scrub QB's... I was waiting for TN to come calling but dont think it'll happen
This happened yesterday, “He is the man I want. Period,” Adams said by phone from Houston. http://www.tennessean.com/article/2...on-Manning?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|FRONTPAGE
There's good incentive that he goes to Nashville. I was in Nashville before he was in the NFL and he was like Elvis there. He can face the Colts and stick it to them , kinda like Favre when he was with the Vikings. This could only be good news for Chris Johnson too. They need better receivers though.
