I am guessing the Rockets would not use the player option to re-sign Dally. It won't be a top 3 pick (Stern will make sure of that), but it would still be 4-6 if we traded for it. We lose all of our cap flexibility, and that is a lot of money to spending on a rookie. Many wouldn't make this trade simply because they could end up drafting a bust.

It's a trade chip to throw at Orlando if they want to move Dwight. You move Okafor and the pick to Orlando, send expirings to New Orleans and add a couple more pieces to get back Dwight and Hedo.

I would jump on it, Okafor is decent and a different situation here in Houston might do him some good.

If the Rockets are serious about winning, this is the type of move they need to make, if the pick is available, they can not afford to let it go to someone else.

And Okafor is a heck of a player when healthy, one thing that has been proven is that cap room is meaningless if the better players are not interested in coming to Houston in the first place.

To get a top draft pick would be an incredible coup for Morey.

I dont see how they will give their 1st unless it is protected.

The Hornets need a new franchise player, Davis would be perfect.

I could see them making it only protected if it is #1 and then Stern grinning when they mysteriously get #1 this summer.

If we could get both of these, NYK misses play offs...

    We could have #3,#10,#14

Make it top 3 protected this year, top 2 next year, top 1 the following year and then unrestricted thereafter.

Morey should be all over this, like stink on crap.

I'm not sure the Magic would do that trade unless they saved much more. It's interesting though..

HECK NO! So Stern can land a top 3 pick this year and somehow the Hornets make the playoffs next year? Here's your non-lotto pick that cost you $30 million. It has to be unprotected or NO DEAL.

Their pick will almost certainly be top 5 protected this year. They'd be insane not to.

It is weird how much Okafor has fallen off. 13-10-2 Oak is worth it at that cash...but now he's 10-8-1? 7-7 on his last 10? Indefinitely out with a bad knee? I have a suspicion that he may be on his way to a microfracture soon....

If we fall out of the playoffs, having 3 mid-first picks (take Minny's pick) would be a cool way to kick off a full rebuild.

This trade deadline can't get here soon enough. i'll be despondent if no big deal goes down.

Then there's no real value there. Pick has to be unprotected to justify taking on that much money. If they are trying to protect it, they are looking for an NBA GM who is a total fool. Perhaps Kahn comes to the table.

Exactly. That's why it sounds suspicious to me. Stern is one sneaky b*stard.

"Either of 2 first round picks," Amico wrote.

Sounds good, so far. If they are unprotected, it makes me a little more partial to the deal. Considering it's a $30 million contract left on the books, no way it can anything lower than projected 3rd pick. They currently have Minnesota's pick, but that pick is not worth throwing a huge contract on the books, since Minnesota is still a capable team, even with a decline. It may not fall lower than 10.

No modestly competent NBA GM/owner will allow such a deal unless a high value pick is returned. No incentive for a protected pick, which carries heavy protection with a burdening contract.
