As a Redskins season ticket holder I am happy. If RG3 pans out he will be our first franchise QB since Sonny Jurgenson.
I think NFL first round picks, even if they are in the lower half of the draft, are extremely valuable. If it were the NBA, I might agree with you there, but in the nfl, 1st and 2nd round picks can yield stars.
This might not be good for rg3. The redskins gave up so much what if they can't surround him with talent. Unless you are peyton you need some decent players around you. How good would Rodgers be if he didn't have an all pro tight end and receivers.
i don't disagree. one of my friends from BU who lives in Virginia and is a huge Redskins fan told me 2 days ago he was nervous about the Redskins potentially acquiring RG3 because he was afraid Snyder would screw him up.
If the Redskins are a 9 win team giving up #20 picks, the heat on the Skins over this trade won't be half as much as it would be if they're a 7-win squad giving up #11s. Obviously they're all valuable, but there's a serious slope across the first round of the NFL draft. First half of the first round is equivalent of NBA lottery picks. When you say: I say, they are in the clear if he's a Vick or Culpepper and they post winning records. Obviously Young would be a bust even if they only surrendered the second round pick. If they're losing and giving up firsts in the top third of the draft? Then he really will have to be one hell of a superstar to keep Shannahan employed.

A 3rd (this year), 1st (next year) and 5th (next year) as additional picks for the bump up is not exactly the same as a 2nd (this year), 1st (next year) and 1st (two years away). I'd say the Redskins paid a lot more. Worked out great for the Giants, but worked out well for the Chargers -- they got 3 Pro Bowlers in that trade (Rivers, Merriman, Kaeding).
That the world was very different in the 70's and 80's prior to the salary cap era and/or that Joe Gibbs was a fantastic coach.
Jeff Fisher is a happy man. The Redskins have about $40 million to spend and will have a big offseason.
In fairness though, I'm sue the Chargers knew the Giants would just have traded down and taken Rothelisberger instead if they couldnt get Manning, or they could have stayed pat with Rivers as all 3 were highly rated. I don't think the overall QB talent level for this draft is as good though.
I don't think most Cowboys fans are upset. I am a Cowboys fan and personall this is great for Dallas IMO. Snyder will now have to spend many dollars in FA to surrround RGIII with talent. Albert Haynesworth anyone? The skins have really been crappy in free agency and the decisions there. 3 first rounders is just too much. Especially when I cannot see any scenario in which the Skins finish above .500 next yearr. Great deal for the Rams.
Agreed...From my perspective, it's great for the NFC East to have RGIII as it'll bring tons of exposure of an already overexposed division...Plus get to see RGIII twice a year and I will say there are no weapons around him yet, but in a few years they'll be dangerous...
that has nothing to do with the point. the point is you don't/didn't still don't need a franchise qb to win a superbowl. big ben doesn't put up nearly the numbers rodgers or eli in a good season does. you're right the world was much different, that's why its great to have a boat load of draft picks rather than a franchise qb.
