The 15th pick is still quite valuable. Spurs got Kawhi last year and this is supposed to be a deeper draft.
The Knicks suck pretty bad too, have the hardest record in the league and just lost to the Bucks. It's not that big of a stretch for the Bucks to finish the season stronger than the Knicks especially if they can get something for Bogut as other people have mentioned.
If we make the playoffs then we lose our pick to NJ. If Knicks make playoffs we dont get a lottery. So.... What if we ship Martin to Cleveland for nothing, that may guarantee us two lottery picks. Our playoff chances will surely diminish but Cleveland might push the Knicks out of top.
OR we just trade for Bogut and give Milwaukee enough pieces to edge out NYC. We'll get two picks, and we'll have Bogut to contend next year.
A 3-way with Orlando could make a lot of sense to them. Send some of our assets to Milwaukee for Bogut. Send Orlando Bogut and the Knicks pick along with whatever else they want for Dwight. Orlando can then watch Milwaukee overtake the Knicks that Knicks pick becomes somewhere around #6 to #9 in the draft. Bogut plus the Knicks pick plus some other assets from us may be an attractive enough package to get Orlando to move Dwight. And bottom line is if we can't get Dwight and/or Dwill now, a Bogut trade represents a prime opportunity for us to tank out this season and get in the low lottery possibly, also get that Knicks pick down into the 6-9 range in the draft, possibly get lucky in the lottery but if we don't, we're setting on two lower lottery picks plus Bogut to either build around or trade during the offseason.
i was actually beginning to root for NY after it appeared our hopes had all but been lost wen they were + 6 over 9th or something and appeared heading for top 4, because watching Lin ball with a team that played its heart out was insipiring but now that melo is back, the basketball team just doesnt look as fluid, and im sure melo is not doing this on purpose but the fact is players just dont play as hard for some reason. Maybe its because they know they have a star or something or that they are not getting the ball. But i think its the fact that melo is not a ball stopper, he is a good scorer wen he gets the ball, the problem is he doesn't MOVE wen he gives up the ball, he can't move off the ball when the possession is not centred around him, i think Lin finally stopped deferring to him today and he should just keep playing the game he is playing and be aggresive cause he is fearless and plays with heart and makes everyone else play harder. But ye now that NY is pretty close to stuffing up i hope Milwaukee can somehow chase them down, they have a good coach and Illaysova is and absolute tank, tank tank. I like jopmatc proposed trade although getting dwight seems near impossible but i am open to moving scola and martin for absolutely nothing. This way we can save Les lots of money and stink up the joint and watch morris and twill play. Watching Martin and Scola is so sad... its so depressing watching them as fans because its like a hopeless battle... i love scola's heart and i think he would suit any team except a rebuilding team and i think martin is a good scorer but is mentally poor, in that he has to play in a good situation and be a 2/3rd scorer.
I love having this pick, it gives alot of leverage. On one hand, if the Knicks don't make the playoffs, we end up with two lottery picks with one within the top 10, if we missed the playoffs again. On the other hand, if the Knicks briefly fall below 8th before the deadline, you could definitely use such a pick to grab a quality player for possible lottery pick (which could also not become a lottery pick, if the Knicks make the playoffs), yet we have gotten a certain value for the pick in the form of a solid player.
Knicks on the way to a 5th straight loss. And they play the bulls tomorrow. Told you peoples. Peleincubus = SMART
2003-04: Year they trade for Marbury: Knicks make playoffs, get swept in 1st round. 2004-05: Miss playoffs 2010-11: Year they trade for Melo: Knicks make playoffs, get swept in 1st round. 2011-12: Looks like they're gonna miss playoffs
Imagine if Lin hadn't gotten hot in that stretch without Melo and Amare. They would have a terrible record right now.
I know it's far from over and so many things change from day to day, but it's crazy to think that if GS wins today the West would have 13 teams with a better win% than the 8th seeded knicks in the East.
The Knicks are free falling. We just need another EC team to put together a winning streak and take on their spot in the playoffs. Come on Cleveland.
It's time for Milwaukee to step up. I'm not sure if the Knicks could win any of those next 4, the way they're playing now.
Giving the Bucks a few players to strengthen their playoff race and taking on Bogut is looking like a delicious scenario. The idea that NY is "too talented" to miss the playoffs is losing its luster.
