He's not coming to the Texans, hell we're restructuring contracts just to bring us under the cap. Mario isn't coming back, hell we might not even be able to bring back Myers. People need to stop and think. We won a playoff game last year w/ a rookie QB. Yes Schaub has injury issues but imagine if he were healthy! Plus do you really want to bring in a 35 yr old QB who is used to one offensive system during his career and not to mention coming off a pretty serious injury. I understand doctors have cleared him, but this is a neck injury, those are always severe no matter what. Fans need to stop and think instead of jumping the gun and getting into a specific mind set. Why do you think there aren't any rumors of Texans showing interest? Yes some of you will say they want to keep it on the low key in case it doesn't work, it won't be a slap on Schaub. But honestly, thats not it. There is a reason why these GMs make soo much more money and why they have their job. I find it hilarious so many people actually want this guy on the Texans when we have a pretty legit QB with a decent young backup with lots of potential.

That part is dead wrong. He's visiting with them first. And I know where they got the Miami snippet and it's in the least grossly overblown - lazy reporting to recycle it as legit.
I know the money is not there and Kubiak is too loyal to his players and everything else, but I wish the Texans would at least meet with Manning. Somebody is going to get a damn good quarterback with a chip on his shoulder.
It can't be about money... And I'm talking about the Owner... How much more advertising dollars would the Texans get if Manning sign? How many more nationally televised games would we get? National Coverage i.e... ESPN I'm definitley on the side of signing Manning.. 80% Manning > 100% Shaub Ability to read defense and make changes on the line = Manning Arm precision and speed = Manning (Yes ? here with injury) Leadership Skills = Manning Opposing Defensive coordinators would not know what to do with stopping the Pass or Run. = Manning Basically our TE's and WR's becomes better with Manning And MOST importantly.... 4th QTR... Manning gets it done period.. Shaub in his whole damn career is never able to put it on his shoulders and carry this team to BIG wins when were down by 7 or more in teh 4th. It all comes down to the 4th for me and Big game situations.. I feel Schaub really takes a step back..

A meeting - at least one that we'd know about - would be a terrible idea. The entire point, as Bob Allen said over a month ago, is that even if the Texans are interested in Manning, it has to go down in secrecy. If either party decides it's not the right fit, it can't become public knowledge or you have a very angry Matt Schaub and a locker room that's thrown into chaos. You'd probably have to trade Schaub, in that situation, and have T.J. Yates and Matt Leinart in a competition to be your starter. That's not good. My guess is that the Texans are at least curious, and I don't buy the John McClain/Peter King reports that they aren't. Those guys are mouthpieces for Rick Smith and the front office. If Manning can prove to the Texans that he's near 100% and willing to sign a reasonable contract, I really think the Texans would make it work. But it's going to happen behind closed doors, and unless a deal is actually signed, all you're going to hear are denials day after day. And after it's over, unless the Texans sign him, they'll tell reporters they always believed in Schaub and never considered anything else. That doesn't make it the truth. This is going to be fairly difficult to follow.
i agree with this for the most part, mostly from the standpoint that there is no benefit to them making their negotiations public knowledge. but, as far as schaub goes, how much offense can the guy really take? it's peyton manning for ****'s sake. and if he caught wind of them making a play for him, and it ended up falling through, it should be clear to him that he's very much wanted and very much the man for the next several years by this franchise. schaub seems like a stand-up guy with little to no ego. he'll be the same guy regardless of what transpires.
I don't know, man. Do you remember when the spurs were courting Jason Kidd a few years ago? (ultimately to no avail) I remember reading that Pops pulled Tony Parker aside after it was all over and explained to him that they have to explore any option to make the team better and it was in no way a judgement on him as their PG. He understood and was totally cool with it. Schaub is a pretty stand-up guy and I can't imagine him holding a grudge. Hell, if anything, it would piss him off enough to play his ass off during a contract year, and that could be a good thing.
I totally disagree that we should be worried about Schaub's feelings. If Dan Marino would have been a free agent in 93 and wanted to be an Oiler I don't think anyone would have been worried about Warren Moon's feelings. It's a business. If you have a chance to get the best you have to explore it. If Schaub wants to cry about it he take his broken foot and injury prone self elsewhere.
Schaub isn't the moody emo dude like Jay Cutler is. And he know this team is real close and he's in the best situation for him, so if it falls through and becomes public he'll suck it up and say I understand it's a business and the Texans were just being diligent in exploring all options.
At that point, Tony Parker had just finished his second season with an career average of 12 points and under five assists per game. He wasn't anywhere near as established as Matt Schaub is as an NFL quarterback. Schaub isn't just your QB. He's the leader of the team. He's the guy who conducts the offseason workouts, knows the offense inside and out, teaches and mentors the other players, etc. He's the MVP of this group. I don't care how nice of a guy he is - if it comes out publicly that they looked at replacing him, it undermines his leadership position. It creates a lot of doubt in the locker room for a team that is already Super Bowl caliber. Chemistry is a very fragile thing in the NFL, and when you have a team that's already a contender, drastic changes need to be handled delicately. Not saying the Texans shouldn't pursue Manning - if he's healthy, I think they should. But if they publicly go after him and it doesn't work out, it's not as simple as just turning the page. That's why it needs to be kept private.
