If we were that blessed, then you IMMEDIATELY deal Lowry and Scola for Gasol before the Lakers change their minds, and then go for Dwil in the offseason.

    Then you have:
    Dragic/Flynn
    Lee/Twil
    Morris/Hedo/Chase
    Gasol/Hill
    Howard/Smith

Why are people still seriously discussing this, there's no way in hell we could offer a better package than any other team. Our draft picks aren't worth ****, Patterson has not been that good this year, Lowry is dropping off a little bit lately, Martin is terrible at times and the list goes on.

The Knicks had worse assets and a worse team record when they traded for Melo. Stop being such a Debbie Downer.

Hahaha, that's true. We are just keep fantasizing and praying that we get D. Howard. It's natural. I know it's ridiculous that we are still discussing this but the recent source said that the Warriors and Rockets are the only two teams at this point that are willing to rent Howard, so that's why we are really hoping we rent Howard to save the struggling Rockets. We can deal any of our players that Orlando wants. Does Howard still want to be traded? ;)

Some people are right in thinking that other teams can present Orlando with better deals but those same teams are not willing to trade for him without a guaranteed extension like us.

I am actually for the first time beginning to think that Morey might pull this off. All or nothing !!!! If it happens i will be on ecstatic human being.

I agree with you and have for years, and based on what Morey has said in the past, I believe he agrees with you... Problem is the owner is old and doesn't want to rebuild...

I think we're actually in a good position to land Howard. Other teams have already used up their assets and don't have what the Magic want. I would think Atlanta may be the only clear threat, if they give up Smith and horford.

That being said, I don't think there's a chance in hell DH will re-sign here, so get ready to tank.

I agree! Dmo, Morris, NYK's Pick, Martin, Budinger, Dragic, Lee, 09ers, Llul. The best team to trade for Howard is Houston and GS. If I had to bet my last dollar I'll say we are going to end up with Howard if he's traded, because GS aint giving up Curry -BKJr

It's a lot of money to leave on the table if he walks, and he knows our front office is stronger than Orlando's, and even a gutted Rockets team is probably still better than his supporting cast in Orlando.

He probably doesn't sign an extension but there's a chance. Could be a chance of him exercising his player option and playing "wait and see" for one more season too.

Atlanta is a threat, but I'm not sure Horford + Smith is better than a Rockets package for Orlando's situation. Harder to build around that duo since they crush your cap space, and those two aren't good enough to make you a contender by themselves... need an all-star to play with them.

Golden State is the biggest threat if and only if they are willing to offer a package including Stephen Curry. They're probably not though. We can beat any deal centering on Monta Ellis.

If we get Howard, one would assume we would have to eat Turkoglu's contract. Hypothetically, even if we acquired Gasol, there is no way we would have the cap room to sign Deron Williams to a max contract unless the Rockets overpaid some team (draft picks?) to absorb Turkoglu in the deal.

I don't think you necessarily have to take Turk's contract, but even if you do, it's possible to have room for D-Will. Howard + Turk = about $30M. That still leaves $28M in cap space for Williams and filling out the rest of the team. (Plus a $2.5M MLE if I understand the new CBA right.)

    Interesting.

Alex Kennedy: If the Magic decide to trade Dwight Howard, sources close to the center believe it'll be to a team that'll rent him, not a team on his list. Twitter

Alex Kennedy: From what I hear, the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors are among the teams willing to trade for Dwight Howard as a rental. Twitter

That would be a massive buyout ala Steve Francis/Portland. Turkoglu has the prorated portion of this years salary remaining, plus 11.8 next year and only 6 million guaranteed the year after. That would be a massive check for Les Alexander to write (easily over 20 million).

Maybe they could use the stretch exception on Turkoglu if Houston acquired him in a hypothetical Howard trade, and then convince Dwight/Deron to take a little bit less than the full maximum over the summer.

That would be an interesting situation if Houston can obtain Howard for anything other than Lowry and Scola. And then flip Lowry and Scola for Pau Gasol. Dwight and Deron would be looking at the following options:

    a) play with a 31 year old Gasol in Houston
    b) play with a 34 year old Nowitzki in Dallas
    c) play with nobody in Brooklyn

The point was acquiring Pau Gasol in a subsequent trade after getting Dwight Howard. See post #158

Then still, Warriors can knock any deal of the Rockets out of the park because:
#1 Curry / Ellis is better as a prospect or player now than any of ours
#2 Have better prospects / young bucks in Klay, Udoh etc.
#3 Draft picks, ours are not worth much
