    my dreamer mega-trade
4 team deal (which is almost impossible to pull off)

    ORL, HOU, LAL, NOR

Houston receives: Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, Matt Barnes, Hedo Turkoglu, Jarrett Jack
Orlando receives: Emeka Okafor, Kevin Martin, MEM 2013 1st rounder
LA receives: Luis Scola, Kyle Lowry, Chase Budinger
New Orleans receives: Hasheem Thabeet, Patrick Patterson, Terrence Williams, Jonny Flynn, Jordan Hill, NYK 2012 pick.

-We obviously do it because we instantly have the best front court in the NBA. Our wing defense gets some balance courtesy of Barnes, and Lowry is replaced by Jack. Turk on the wings, if anything, gives us a passer that enables Jack to also be a spot up shooter. Our new lineup would be:
Jack / Dragic, Lee / Barnes, Turk / Parsons, Gasol / Morris, Howard / Dalembert. Our biggest need would be PF, but if Howard decided to opt out and re-sign in Houston, we could exceed the cap to sign him.

-The Lakers get out of Gasol’s contract and get back the penetrating guard they need alongside Kobe who can also hit 3s and defend. Scola is a downgrade at the PF, but the upgrade at the PG counter-balances that. The one hitch seems to be giving up Barnes, who has a reasonable and short contract, but it seems justifiable given that Lowry’s deal is such a bargain (which also counter-balances the albatross-like nature of Scola’s deal). Their new starting lineup would be:
Lowry / Blake / Fisher, Kobe / Budinger, Artest / Kapono / Budinger, Scola / Murphy, Bynum / McRoberts

-Orlando gets back what they want for Howard, at least according to most NBA writers: starting quality players that leave them still relevant. Okafor gives them a defensive presence in the paint. To boot, the prime contenders in the East don’t rely on post scoring, thus, the small size difference in Howard and Okafor doesn’t horribly cripple their ability to remain competitive. Kevin Martin gives them a consistent outside scorer (I genuinely believe his inconsistency this season is a by-product of our new system, not his abilities wearing away), and his presence on the wing will open up more opportunities for Nelson and Richardson. They also get out of their worst contract in Turkoglu. Furthermore, the pick may prove to be valuable if someone in Memphis gets hurt. Their new lineup would be:
    Nelson / Duhon, Martin / Redick, J. Richardson / Q. Richardson, Anderson / Davis, Okafor / Orton / Davis

Yeah, I know that this doesn’t look like a good roster, but Orlando is run by a guy who thought adding Arenas was a good move, traded for Davis’ **** contract, and re-traded for Turk after he was overpaid and after he let him go in FA. This is also the guy who traded one of the best backup C’s in the league for an aging Richardson. So really, anything is possible.

New Orleans gets back a wide array of expiring deals, gets out of their two worst contracts sans Ariza, gets a very promising young player in Patterson, and a first round pick in this year’s deep draft.

    A man can dream, right?

I posted about this in the other thread, but the gist of it is that Orlando says they want a deal similar to what Denver got for Melo + Billups in exchange for Howard. This is the best I can do at approximating that deal (at the time of the trade) using Rockets assets:

I know none of them has emerged at the level of Gallinari yet, but please remember that nobody knew Gallinari was this good when the Knicks traded him. Also, the Knicks' 2012 draft pick is a lot better than their 2014 pick was for Denver--and Llull is better than any combo platter of 2nd rounders, in my opinion. Motiejunas could potentially be subbed in or maybe even straight-up added to the deal if absolutely necessary, although it would hurt.

Also, I know it is fashionable to whine about Martin right now, but next year he will be a very valuable expiring contract, because he's a good player who can also be used to absorb salary and obtain a draft pick or a young prospect.

That's a nice trade package for Orlando.. but i think expanding the deal to include Lowry and Thabeet for Jameer Nelson would allow Houston to place a better "bid" for Howard. People forget Nelson was an all-star just 3 seasons ago and is still relatively young.

That's possible. I become concerned that adding Lowry would really hurt our chances to get Howard to sign an extension. Maybe if he agrees to at least exercise his player option and see how things go, that would be more palatable.

Yeah i concur, he would have to opt-in ala Chris Paul with the Clippers in order for Houston to shed Lowry in the deal. Or, Houston would need to have a simultaneous deal lined up to bring in another guy to play with Howard. I wonder if we would still have the assets to add a Pau Gasol to the roster. That would be a nasty frontline no matter who is playing small forward.

Or, we could include Lowry in the trade, but keep Martin or use him to trade for a lesser PG. (Jose Calderon, Devin Harris, Jrue Holiday.) Or maybe a Martin / Ellis swap, since Ellis and Howard are friends?

Yep. Here's a three-teamer I came up with, not sure if Philly would do it, but it's probably better than any other deal Orlando is going to find next week:

If they're trading Howard, I think they're going to be more concerned about getting fair value than about which warm bodies they put on the floor for the rest of the season. Just sayin'. Hill could easily be included if it's a dealbreaker, anyhow.

I think whoever gets Howard is gonna haveta take some crappy contracts off Orlando's hands... Hedo's first and foremost...they also wanna ditch Duhon and JRich...

DHow/Hedo/Wafer for Kmart/Sam/Morris/Thabeet/NY pick works salarywise...

Then a 2nd swap of Duhon for Dragic...

Gives them Kmart/Sam to compete now, a young Morris for the future and turns Hedo and Duhon into expirings...and cuts nearly 5M off their books this year...even gives them room to resign Dragic if desired... how can they not love all that! lol

One more before I hit the sack... bit of a wild one, but not wholly unrealistic as far as four team trades go:

Why ORL does this: Tell me where they're going to find a better collection of picks and prospects in a stacked draft class. I don't see it. Kinda nifty to combine the Morris brothers, too. Now they just need to turn Martin into Brook Lopez somehow... :)

Why LAL does this: They've been trying to swing Lowry + Scola for Gasol, for awhile now. Morey gives in and settles but only if they throw a 1st rounder Orlando's way to sweeten the pot.

Why PHX does this: They really want to re-sign Nash and take one more shot at contending next year before he retires. If Gasol falls in their lap, their front office will jump at the chance to stay relevant for a couple more years.

Why we do this: We only would gut the team to this extent if Howard was at least willing to exercise his player option. This trade clears up a ton of cap space while still keeping a decent supporting cast for Howard this season and holding onto Patterson, Llull, and Motiejunas.

    Dragic/Flynn
    Lee/Brown
    G. Hill/Budinger
    Patterson/J. Hill
    Howard/Dalembert

In the offseason our only contract commitments are Howard, Patterson, and Budinger. In other words, we have room for two max contracts--or D-Will and a bunch of supporting players (probably including Courtney Lee, who's an RFA).

None of your trades make sense for either of the teams involved.

    Rumors
    - 76ers want to trade Turner for a range shooter, Kmart is a range shooter.
    - Hornets would want to trade Kaman for younger players and picks, maybe add 2nd-rd pick.
    - Warriors want Scola, they already have Udoh, Scola + Udoh, no place for Tyler.
    - Boston want and they don't want to trade Rondo, Lowry almost equal value to Rondo, plus Morris to replace their old frontline.
    - Varejao is just an idea, maybe the Cavs would want to replace Varejao with a younger Patterson.

Again it's just rumors and ideas

    Who is Marvin?

If you're talking about Marvin Williams, there's no way that would work

    To Houston:
    Steven Jackson
    Dwight Howard

    To Milwaukee
    Kevin Martin
    Sam Dalembert

    To Orlando
    Andrew Bogut
    Luis Scola
    Marcus Morris
    Chase Budinger
    Donteas Montejounas
    NY 2012 #1

Leveraging the Bogut rumor that Jackson must leave with him and the fact that Howard has said that Jackson is a guy Howard would like to play with, we could offer Howard a decent reason to stick around.

    Lowry / Dragic
    Lee / Williams
    Jackson / Budinger
    Patterson / Parsons
    Howard / Hill

And I belive this gives us enough cash to go after Dwill in the offseason. Dynamite defensive team, decent offensive team.

    Why wouldn't it work?

They've wanted to get rid of his contract for awhile.
