What? Aside from some Jordan teams, the best teams in history were in the '80s. Lakers, '86 Celtics, '83 Fo Fo Fo. No team now would beat the Lakers, Celtics, 76ers or Pistons of the '80s. The Heat's clutchless-ness and lack of a center would be exposed by those teams. Hell, good luck beating the '86 Rockets, too. Heat would not beat them. Even if you want to argue the Heat could win a title in the '80s, no other current team would have a chance in hell. Those teams were too complete...offense, defense, depth, clutchness, etc.
Your NBA knowledge has dropped because of these thread dude. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/nSUcqeOO_Ek" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Players back then were tough and didn't DNP like your favorite players of today.

Jeremy Lin is smart enough to know that Larry Bird and the 80s were legendary. Think about these 80s greats. Most of these guys were so good, they were badasses in the 90s too Magic Bird Olajuwon Jordan Barkley Dominique Drexler I bet if McHale suited up now, he'd school some of the crap bigs out now. Bird<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/1FBuWLSM6Rk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Bird is the reason why the Rockets didn't win in 86!
Someone would have to put a gun to my head before I'd post a thread with that title! Bird would ransack the league were he playing today, pillage and burn, and yes, he'd probably have a longer career. The dude was just insanely good, but even worse (if you were playing against him), he was as cold blooded as any player who's ever played the game.
Deck, these kiddies dissing on the 80s forgot that the 80s stars were so good they were stars in the 90s too. Jordan, Barkley, Magic, Dream, Drexler..
Who are these freak athletes that dominates defense in today's NBA that didn't exist in the 80's. Name 5 other than Lebron and Dwight
If Bird was the age he is now, sure. If he was at his prime, he would be in the talk for best player in the league. What has LeBron's athleticism gotten him anyways?
I know you and heypartner are old enough to remember all of this. This just means you need to tell your son-in-laws to tell their kids not to go on Clutchfans until they watch NBA 101. start with this: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/zMrcBdXU9Nw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
If Larry Bird suited up right now and played in today's NBA, he'd still be better than a number of players. But yes, he'd be a scrub.
yea similar in they are both smart players, but one is definitely more offensive while the other is defensive. its like comparing apples to oranges. On another one of your comments you said that Bird beat everybody, including Jordan, Olajuwon, etc. - how many HOF were on that team? There is a huge difference from a one star championship team like Olajuwon and even Dirk than a 3/4 HOF players on one team. Did you actually watch the 1986 championship series with the Rockets?
comparing greats to players of today is not right. they were TOUGHER back in the days. stars are babied now. trash talk is T'd up in our game in the present. Bird , Magic, MJ, and throw in our very own Hakeem would destroy any competition in 2012 and give them sleepless nights.
But Bird faced several teams with multiple HOFers. Had Magic not existed or Bird not existed, Magic might have 8 rings and Bird 5. Instead they had to share them. Magic 5 and Bird 3.
Leave Bird alone. He has earned every accolade and awards he had unlike most of the so-called "superstars" nowadays. His legacy is not hyped up so give him the respect that he deserves. Again, leave him alone!
