I don't want to really sit here and explain everything but chuck is effective because he is a smart player, knows where to be and understands the game. Despite his physical limitations he is able to be an effective player. Granted chuck is a defensive specialist the same premise applies on offense, which Bird was exceptional at. Bottom line, if you are judging a player on his measurables, I.e. how fast, how high he can jump, etc...well then you are missing what really matters. and that is, can they play the game?
So we just watched Dirk lead a team to a title and then someone asks if Bird would be a scrub today. LMAO. If any fanbase should know how badass Bird was it should be ours. Bird in this pansy, you can't touch guys league. Dudes can't stop Kevin Love from going off, but Bird would be a scrub. LOL
The same Larry Bird that tore up the Pistons and made Dennis Rodman look like Steve Novak on defense? Are you f--king kidding me? Sigh...
Those of you saying Bird would be a scrub today, puts you in one of these categories. A) you don't know a damn thing about basketball B) too young to know just how good Bird was or C) you don't know a damn thing about basketball!! Bird was a stone cold killer, he would cut your heart out and would do it in a variety of ways. LB didn't need crazy athleticism, ask all of the guys who possesed it, if it slowed him down any. Bird was fundamentally sound, you guys remember Tim Duncan right? How explosive and athletic is he? Did it slow Timmy down from being maybe the greatest power forward ever? No. Insane shooting ability, not only accuracy but the ability to get the shot off in crucial moments. Very good rebounder, playmaker, made guys better, held guys accountable, didn't care about anything other than being the best, competing against the best and winning. I could go on and on. If Lebron had half of Bird's mental approach no one could stop him, sadly he doesn't. Bird didn't care about all the BS in today's game, he just wanted to win. Would Bird be a superstar in today's NBA? You bet your ass. Those of you who don't believe it, do your homework and stop coming in here with that nonsense.
transcendent talent is exactly that. it doesn't matter what era he plays in. a prime Bird would be a top 3 player in any decade.
Yeah ... You take Bird and you are talking about a Top 5 to Top 10 Player of all time..... Even Kevin McHale a Top 50 player of all time would be a superstar..... Shall I go on?
Bird being s superstar today is a given. Arguing he would be a scrub is more fun. Besides, why are you guys getting all offended by the few kids that say Bird would be a scrub? Would you argue with a 9 year old? Same concept.
The only problem I have is when people say the NBA level of play isn't better now. The way defense is played is completely different and players are freakishly athletic. I know I'm gonna get **** for this but Dominique's dunks would not be considered mindblowingly amazing in today's era. They would be just considered good NBA dunks.
It was an attempt to educate but apparently you can't polish a turd You're right. Sometimes you just have to let the simple minded be just that
I feel you 99er I feel you What's next? Would Michael Jackson be able to out dance Chris Brown in todays dance floor?
Bird beat Dominque and Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson and even Olajuwon. Don't F with the Old School.
