Is it just me or is a star-rental (Dwight, melo) not panning out the easiest way to bottom out in one swoop?

    It's a win win from morey's standpoint.

If Smith is demanding out and it's become public it's bad PR to hold onto him and that lowers his trade value somewhat. I agree you have to give up more of value than just Scola though. I think Scola + Dragic + Llull could maybe get it done, as I suggested in the random trade ideas thread.

Yes, that's a better package for sure. Josh Smith seems to be constantly vocal about wanting out. The same thing happened last year. Seems the Hawks are more than content to deal or not deal him on their own terms.

This. If the star stays, and attracts a second one to come over, great!!! We become instant contenders.

If the star bolts, and we are left nothing after gutting our team for him, great!!! We suck for a few years and draft true prodigies to lead the Rockets franchise for the next decade and a half. Players that have elite physical and mental capabilties

As long as you don't give up future first round picks, and rights to overseas players to get said star.

Especially when you consider that a trade for said star is likely to keep the team in playoff contention. So if you trade for Dwight, for example, and give up some players, some future draft picks and DMo, Llull, and the star leaves, you are SCREWED imo.

Hill / T-Will virtually have 0 trade value for a team like the Hawks who are not looking to develop young talent. Just because they are demanding a trade it does not make it any easier to acquire him, ala Dwight Howard. Are you saying Howard can now be bought on the low because he has vigorously demanded a trade? Hardly. I would involve the Jazz and flip Harris and Jefferson to the Hawks so Horford can shift back to PF while giving the Jazz back Kevin Martin + Luis Scola.

They have Millsap and potential franchise guy in Favors at PF. Why do they trade for Scola?

I'd say that "alleged Philadelphia insiders trade" might be contingent on us securing Dwight.

If we somehow manage to rent him, we dump Martin's contract and have the ability to max out someone to play alongside the big fella, plus a 'young talent' on the wing.

Wow. Even you are becoming cynical of this organization's modus operantis. Same here, same dance and song.

    Absolutely!

I do fail to see why on earth GSW would be up for a rental?
Surely they're hoaxing on that front, more interested in ditching large chunks of useless salary in the deal? Secondary would MAYBE be convincing Howard to stay?

Let GS rent; let the Rox get Smith and Wallace. Maybe Crawford.

Or let us fall into the Lotto and get a commish-pick. I'll live with that. Any of that, I just don't dream of a rental.

I highly doubt GSW gets Dwight.

    Reasons:
-Their pick is top 7 protected this year, top 6 protected next year.
-Outside of Ellis what else do they have? Maybe David Lee, but he's on contract long-term (I don't think they would add both Ellis and Curry) Curry as the star of the package would be kind of risky considering he has been injury prone last 2 seasons.
-I highly doubt they add future picks because its could still only be a rental. (They could be really desperate though)

In other news, Ron Paul might be the Republican nominee.

Forgot to add Ekpe Udoh and Klay Thompson. I dont see Thompson any more than a fantastic shooter. Udoh is intriguing but Patterson IMHO is more valuable then Udoh

Well, that particular line I've been saying since before the last draft.

    <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>"Sources say Houston is interested in moving up in the draft," writes SI. Sounds just like 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. <a href="http://bit.ly/jZXWqB">http://bit.ly/jZXWqB</a></p>&mdash; ClutchFans.net (@clutchfans) <a href="https://twitter.com/clutchfans/status/71593068448595969" data-datetime="2011-05-20T15:08:12+00:00">May 20, 2011</a></blockquote>

They've spent so much energy trying to trade up into the top 5-10, which is something I fully support, but they have struck out 6 years in a row. There's a reason: Those picks are valuable. May be time to go get one ourselves.

Yeah, but if we get a 5-10 ourselves, Morey will still try to trade up further into the Top 3.

Reminds me that we still have the 2nd, 6th, 8th and 11th pick of 2009 known as thaBusts on the roster ;)
    Talking about moving up.
