I don't know how much rap you listen to, but the rap I listen to doesn't have the issues you are talking about. I think what you mention is part of the problem. The sexism in rap has been so publicized that it seems so widespread and depraved to a lot of people. Sexist derogatory rap towards women definitely exists, and it's definitely worth pointing out as being bad. It's just part of the battle against sexism though. What Rush did is only partly about sexism. It's also about one person in power using his power against a private citizen because she's on a different side of a political issue than Rush. That's despicable even if the attacks weren't also sexist. So it goes beyond just the sexism involved. If you'd like to start a different thread about sexism in hip hop music go right ahead, and I'll post in that. However, that doesn't make criticism of Rush any less valid.
Rush deserves criticism; it's a question of how much and how hard. The attention being paid to him is opportunistic. There are places where the ugliness is much worse (Chris Rock, Lewis Black or Lisa Lampinelli for example). If it is over for Bill Maher, why not the rest...

he is no more of a public figure than any of the people that were listed or the girl who promoted her future in politics.
I think we need some definitions What is RUSH's profession? Entertainer? Talk Show host [is that considered an entertainer or a reporter?] What makes one a PUBLIC figure? The public being aware of you? or You purposely making the public being aware of you? or You profitting off the public being aware of you? Rocket River Set the ground rules .. . then argue

One of those reasons: It's the public airwaves, PUBLIC AIRWAVES Again, why are you opposed to BC as a part of women's health insurance? (since Rush's we pay for it is debunked)
The girl has not volunteered to enter any political field. Once she does she will be a public figure as well. For now she isn't.
when she as a woman's rights activist, volunteered to submit testimony, and then hung around to talk in front of TV cameras at a second hearing. But please, compare contrast Chris Rock, Lewis Black or Lisa Lampinelli to Rush for me and show how Rush is more public than they are.
apples to oranges Chris Rock, Lewis Black, Lisa Lampinelli are all stand-up comedians. Rush is not People who Chris Rock, Lewis Black, Lisa Lampinelli ridicule are celebrities/public personalities. Rush personally attacked a private citizen.
