Anyone know why Bud isn't playing? Or anybody think Bud might be the core of the team?

I think Bud's gonna be the next Carl Landry somewhere else. He needs playing time, but is not going to get it here with the glut of 3's on our roster, unless there is a trade. He's going to be a sweet throw-in for someone.

I think he's simply out of favour with the coaching staff. He's a better rebounder and 3P shooter than Martin or Lee. Two things the Rockets have needed lately.

Some Orlando dudes, while waiting for John Hollinger to show up on his ESPN chat, seem to think Budinger will wind up there.

Naturally---they just saw the white boy dunk in their arena.

I think Bud would play more but he seems to be a goner. I wouldn't mind Orlando's 1st rounder (if it's available) in exchange for Bud, as Orlando has a TE to absorb his small salary.

Not that it would keep Howard in Orlando or make the Rox any better now.

Rest assured, he's going somewhere, though.

This is the only major gripe i've had with McHale is the Budinger situation.

Bud has been a disappointment in a lot of ways, but he is at the least a rotation player. His defense isn't nearly as bad as people think it is, all of the numbers bear that out. 2 and a half years worth of data and he's shown to be solid defensive player as long as he isn't forced to guard elite wing scorers. Everytime the rockets get torched bud gets the blame (like with beasley, ignoring the fact that beasley was torching everybody)

His adjusted plus minus numbers can't be ignored IMO

    09-10 - 0.35
    10-11 + 6.56
    11-12 + 11.05

And his weighted defensive numbers (you want to be in the negatives here)

    09-10 + 2.76
    10-11 - 3.69
    11-12 - 3.31

His number this year has remained high because un-coincidentally he hasn't been on the floor during this recent downturn.

Now compare that to the waste of money that is Kevin martin

    Adjusted plus-minus

    08-09 - 1.47
    09-10 - 1.32
    10-11 - 3.44
    11-12 - 2.80

    And his weighted defensive numbers

    08-09 + 4.92
    09-10 + 4.03
    10-11 + 2.57
    11-12 + 5.10

Not saying Bud is great player, at this point i've resigned myself to the fact that his passive personality will prevent him from ever being great.

But he is already a good NBA rotation player. I've maintained for a while now that the rockets are a better team with Lee starting and Bud off the bench splitting Martins minutes.

Martin needs to be gone, and Bud needs to play.
