more like the top 4 softest teams in the history of the NBA. that team is pretty bad in my opinon. we're spending almost 40 million in martin/gasol/dalembert..? come on. terrible.
People keep bringing up Gasol, but there is no reason to believe that is a move the Rockets are currently seriously considering. According to Jonathon Feigen the Rockets and Lakers haven't discussed Gasol since December, which was around the time the original trade was vetoed by the league. In that scenario we were giving up Scola, Martin and Dragic, and had a good chance of getting Nene. Gasol is a win now move, so unless you can get other stars immediately to join him, then it makes no sense to have a plan to "build around Gasol". If the building takes more than a year there is a good chance Gasol jumps ship to another team when his contract comes up 2 years from now.
Gasol and JJ Redick to Houston Bynum, Kevin Martin, and both LA and Houston's 1st round picks to Orlando Howard, Patrick Patterson, Budinger, Flynn, and Thabeet to LA PG: Lowry/Dragic SG: Lee/Redick/Williams SF: Parsons/Morris PF: Gasol/Scola C: Dalembert/Hill/Smith You can replace Hill with Motiejunas next year. With more size and post scoring this team is a true contender.
I'll say it again...if we trade Lowry for Pau mutha falcon Gasol, I will wish for Morey's immediate departure from his office.
You can't build around scola and he's big chunking the cap also. Id rather see what happens with lopez and go after him. As I said many times before, yrs ago, the rockets are in the wrong window. Dump scola and martin for jamison and a pick. Use that money to get in the game, not try to phoney around with ipad, ipods,or a I tunes download card from walmart. If neither williams or howard comes, get lopez and possibly mcgee and continue to upgrade the roster with young guys who can grow.
I actually think Houston is going for both and I think they will try for Eric Gordon as well in the Kaman deal. Kevin Martin will be going to New Orleans and Thabet and maybe the NY 1st rounder which is beginning to lose value. Do you think at the 14th or worst pick you can get someone better than Eric Gordon doubt it. New Orleans would at least consider this deal because they get a starter and a 1st round pick and stll have some salary coming off the books. The fact that Kaman and Grodon said that they will not resign is huge here though this is trade to avaoid this risk of getting nothing out of the Chris Paula trade, thanks David.
Man,I'm just trying to make sense of this stuff. Sometimes,or most times its hard seeing my favorite sports team be irrelevant. I think if they can dump scola and martin for jamison,it won't bother the win total. They can compete and rebuild without tanking. This summer, make a real run at both williams and howard,if that fails, they would still have a chance to do what uath did with boozer and okur. Lowry sint as good as williams, but they would still have 2 sub 25 yr olds( lopez and mcgee) who are getting better. Add them to lowry, lee, and maybe morris or and upgraded 3 and you now have something similar to memphis. Not to mention the picks they have.
How does Jonathon Feigen know what Daryl Morey has been discussing? Does he spy on them or something?
I think having Lowry AND Gasol could lure a superstar to the Rockets. I hate the idea of sending Lowry to LA and helping them rebuild by getting younger and having more cap room. I like this trade more: LA gets Rondo, Scola HOU gets Gasol BOS gets Martin, Dragic, Parsons, 1sts from LA and NY
My guess: This is all a distraction from the REAL move. Morey never, and I mean NEVER shows his hand before he's ready to play. We didn't even know about Gasol until a day or two before the league cancelled the trade. Too many factors have changed since then that make deal untenable for either party. Whatever trade we're involved in, it will likely be sudden, and will include team(s) and player(s) we're not talking about.
Nice post and thread OMR... I too am comfortable trading both Lowry and Scola if it were to better our team. I don't think we're going to get equal value for Lowry though in terms of age, bargain contract and stats. I think it's a no-brainer that Scola and Martin are on the way out one way or another. I'm also enamored with Iylasova and would love to see him in a Rockets jersey. I think he can be had especially if we are willing to take on Captain Jack as well. Many might view Jackson as a deal-breaker but I think he'd be a deal sweetner. He's older but his game doesn't really depend on athleticism. Furthermore, he plays with passion and he has veteran leadership/playoff experience to help us make our push.... and LUCKY for us he can be had because he's a misfit in Milwaukee. He has 2 years left just like Martin and makes similar money (couple mil. less). A deal centered around Ilyasova + Captain Jack + fillers for Martin + Scola makes sense to me. Hell, we can even get Minny involved in case they don't like Martin and or Scola and Minny has something Milwaukee wants. All I know is a lineup consisting of the following below provides better balance and offers more flexibility down the road. Also I'd feel much more confident about making the playoffs and possibly even making some noise with this roster as opposed to our current one. Lowry Lee Captain Jack Ilyasova Dalembert
