Believe me when I say Lowry is one of the players I literally idolise in the NBA. I LOVE LOWRY. I LOVE LOWRY. I AM TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH LOWRY AND HAVE SINCE HIS MEMPHIS DAYS.

    But for Gasol?

I am willing to part with the only shining star and the only reason to watch the team, for a HOF PF/C.

Dude calm the freak down! Gasol's not the only move. It'll probably be like when Boston traded for Kg and Ray Allen. If they do get Gasol and make no other moves, then repost this after the deadline

Man, just getting Gasol would be a HUGE coup for Morey.

Considering the triple-double Rondo recently had, I seriously doubt the Celtics would move him.

He already did get him, and this time it's costing him alot more. The only faith I have in this is that Morey has to know Gasol's "Superstar Level" window is closing fast and he has to put together a championship team by the start of next season or else it's all a waste.

If that were to happen, I'd suspect Morey of being a passive agressive tanker. Bad thing is it would take a couple more years for us to hit true bottom.

Kupchak won't deny that Gasol's on the block even after Kobe ask him to do one or the other. Last year Morey said everyone was available and called them assets.

I think Kyle Lowry is a bit overrated on this board, but adding Gasol while subtracting Lowry and Scola doesn't really improve the team much. It puts us right back in the situation we were in previously ...500, late lotto or early playoff exit. It's not really indicative of a strategy to build a solid, lasting contending team. It's another quick-fix/splash move that helps mire us in mediocrity.

Only way i like this deal is if it is a precursor to another big move.

It's the only way he can do it without tipping off Les. Morey knows that getting a Superstar is easier through the draft and by trading his good players for a gamble he can disguise tanking.

not true. He gave up the knicks draft pick, Dragic and Martin in the original deal.

Morey could easily trade Martin, Dragic and the pick for another player to add to Gasol.

Might not make the team "better" but it will fill a few more seats and that is something Les is also aware of.

Any deal where we get Pau Gasol will be a 3 team deal, where Martin and Scola are the main pieces.

Disagree. Gasol is it not the player he used to be. He has the height but he's still soft in the paint AND to give up Lowry would be theft by the Lakers. The Rockets would essentially be the All-Soft team of the nba. Another thing to consider, the lakers would be dramatically better with a true point guard in Kyle. Just consider the lineup: Kyle, Scola, Kobe, Bynum, and World Peace. That's a legit lineup. If I'm Morey, that's the last thing I want. Just consider the rockets lineup assuming no other trades are made: Gasol, Dalembert, KMart, Dragic, Patterson. That's a weak lineup.

The only reason to trade Lowry would be for a superstar, that should not change with the trade deadline approaching.

It does no such thing. Sorry I know you're on this bent but your conclusions aren't reasonably well founded I'm afraid.

Dwight originally wanted the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul because he felt that without a star powered point guard to support him, the framework for long standing success wouldn't be in place.

That much was learned during the lock out through various sources, one of the most reliable being his former teammate Matt Barnes now a Laker.

So the Lakers made that bold move. Well, sort of. They've been backtracking every since.

But to the extent that Howard remains on the radar for the Lakers, it has nothing whatsoever in common with Gasol, other than as has always been true since the attempted deal for Paul, Gasol remains the piece that can help the Lakers land that star powered point guard (Rondo or Lowry), that Howard insisted they have in place in order for him to consider LA a long term destination.

None of this may come about or even be possible any longer, but the Lakers have been unwaivering in where their interests lie.

And Bucher's comments regarding Kobe are simply laughable.

Sure the luxury tax won't be any fun two or three years from now, but the Lakers cable television network deal is so incredibly lucrative that it can easily sustain them through this such that the bigger concern over time would be diluting the product on the floor and threatening future sales.
