57 points 7 dimes 18 points 17 boards 20 dimes I have to go with the stupid triple double. talk about controling a game. this came up because mark vandemeer (local houston sports host) said sports center should have led off with rondo's game instead of williams's
There have been only 2 players to ever put up Rondo's line. 15+ points, 15+ rebounds, 20+ assists. Wilt in 1961, and Oscar Robertson in 1968 (I think those are the right names/dates). Rondo is the third, and the first in 44 years. This is pretty much a no-brainer.
I watched the game and most of Rondo's rebounds were just stat padding defensive rebounds and occasionally on the offensive end the ball would bounce back right to him. It wasn't a monster rebounding display a la Dwight Howard, Joakim Noah, Kevin Love. Most of the rebounds fell right into his hands. The 20 assists were nice but I've seen Rondo do this before and he is clearly capable of dropping 20 dimes "easily" on a great night. Without the impressive rebounding numbers it'd be "just" a 18 pt 20 assist night, and I'm only saying "just" because I don't want to take away from anything he did, its just that I'm not shocked to see Rondo put up those type of pt and assit numbers. To me its not just about the numbers because I saw the game and how he got his rebounds. He didn't sky up with the bigs and rip down rebounds a la Dwayne Wade which has that wow factor since its a guard grabbing rebounds over much bigger players. Honestly, Rondo's numbers was 18-17-20 nice but I'm more amazed by the Lebron-type MONSTER triple doubles 35 pts 15 rebounds 13 assists.. To me, I was more shocked to see D Williams score 57 points on a terrible Net's team... Making 21 of 21 free throws was very impressive as well.
i was watching rondo's game on and off, and it was funny, the tenth rebound literally fell to him. not agreeing with the entire post but I did see that.
Rondo helped his team gain possession 18 times (17 reb 1 stl) while Williams only helped his team gain possession 7 times (6 reb 1 stl). See how silly it is to only post partial stats instead of looking at each player's full game?
actually posted all the stats because i started the thread, actually i said rondo had a better game because he controled more of the game. see how silly you look. geez
I picked DWill's line because the efficiency of it was quite insane as well. Also, I think DWill's line is pretty rare too. 55 - 5 -5. Wonder how many players have done that.
50 point games are rare, but not as rare as what Rondo did yesterday. And to the guy that said it wasn't a monster rebounding night like Dwight or whatever, 17 rebounds is a good night for anyone, especially a PG. You might say some rebounds came right to him, but I could argue he put himself in great position to get some rebounds. Rondo had the better night, and Deron Williams agrees: [RQUOTER]Deron Williams @DeronWilliams Reply Retweet Favorite · Open Blessed tonight! Thought my night was nice till I saw Rondo's performance #OuttaThisWorld![/RQUOTER]
Yeah but Williams could have gotten those same rebounds (like I said the majority of them were gimmes). Watch the game again. Williams on a good night is capable of getting 20 dimes as well. But could Rondo get 57 points? Ever?
The question is what was more impressive. So what was more impressive? Deron scoring 57 points to barely beat a Bobcats team that was 4-30, or Rondo doing something that only 2 other guys have done in NBA history against a stacked team fighting for playoff position?
In the end of the day, either getting extra positions or passing to a teammate. The goal is to put the ball in the bucket and score points, tahts what wins get, people get caught up in stats. Rondo had such a remarkable stat line, just unheard of stats....but dwill did what rondo did straight up and himself, put the ball in the bucket and led his team to victory. I mean its hard to choose(it would've been easy if JEremy lin was an option, but he isn't) but I'm going with dwill, but my fantasy owner inside me loves rondo's well roundened excellence
Its funny how poeple say that, with bobcats last night and Kobe and toronto years agoo...these are still nba players, how many otehr people have dropped 50 even on the bobcats? Its not happening left and right is it? or even 40....just a dumb response
