To me that quote sounds like he's talking about the FBI, ATF, etc.

Here's what he was actually talking aobut

It's difficult of course to find the exact context, because the only people who remember this at all are paranoid right wing militia types and other insane-o's which is what comes up when you search for it. And clutchfans poster jo mama.

so which is it? peace corp or FBI/ATF?

and its still crazy and insane - you want the FBI or ATF to have 1 million people and a $500 billion/year budget? you want the FBI or ATF to be responsible for national security and be just as strong as our military?

After hearing what it was really about, it sounds like a great idea. It's about civilian people to rebuild after military actions. That's a great idea.

you are entitled to your opinion, but i think its incredibly stupid, insane, dangerous, crazy and expensive to advocate a civilian national security force as well funded, large and powerful as our military.

wait, I'm taking the entire quote from the July 2008 speech and you still refuse to let go of the this? taking a page from your book, you said he was "clearly referring to the TSA" when he clearly was not. you have posted the same quote twice now and the source speech from July 2008 says NOTHING about the TSA (an agency invented by Bush)

did you not read the post that I replied to you? I'm not going back and forth when you are too stubborn to see a quote within its entire context.

I have posted transcripts of two speeches now. one where he DIRECTLY referred to Peace Corps, Freedom Corps, and AmericaCorps, and another where he said nothing about a national security force during his inauguration like you "seem to remember"

Obama wants to make a second military, out of civilians, and have it be just as strong as the military!!! Seriously how can people be so damn dense. Is it just out right ignorance, blinded by hate for the president?

You're truly insane, stupid and crazy if you think this is actually what it is. Perhaps you should spend more time on the websites where this dark quote lives on in infamy rather than this one; you'll probably find more sympathy for the ol "TSA is a proxy for the UN to take away your guns" over there anyhow.

Meanwhile in reality, we've managed to have civilian service corps since the 30's (or before?) I haven't checked without devolving into an orwellian police state.

I don't think having one to respond/reconstruct in the event of a disaster is a horrible idea, otherwise that task tends to fall on the National Guard somewhat, which is you know, kind of an actual army. I guess you prefer it if your reconstructors have guns though?

Getting back to the thread topic

A new NBC/WSJ poll shows that people are not happy about the GOP primary are all.

NBC/WSJ poll: Primary season takes 'corrosive' toll on GOP and its candidates

As another round of voting takes place this week in the Republican presidential race – with 11 states holding Super Tuesday contests – a new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows that the combative and heavily scrutinized primary season so far has damaged the party and its candidates.

Four in 10 of all adults say the GOP nominating process has given them a less favorable impression of the Republican Party, versus just slightly more than one in 10 with a more favorable opinion.

Additionally, when asked to describe the GOP nominating battle in a word or phrase, nearly 70 percent of respondents – including six in 10 independents and even more than half of Republicans – answered with a negative comment.

Some examples of these negative comments from Republicans: "Unenthusiastic," "discouraged," "lesser of two evils," "painful," "disappointed," "poor choices," "concerned," "underwhelmed,” “uninspiring” and “depressed.”

And no surprise to see (1) major GOP leaders like Cantor and Coburn lining up behind Romney and (2) significant GOP thoughtleaders like George Will, Charles Krauthammer, Peggy Noonan writing about how the GOP brand is being diminished by this primary process. Whether the far right likes it or not, Romney is the GOP candidate for president, and the sooner the other candidates drop out and line up behind Romney the better for the GOP.

You can't hardly drive around Texas without running into stuff built for public use by the Civilian Conservation Corps during FDR's terms in office. Several hundred thousand people a year worked doing an incredible number of projects around the country. Jo mama, you're confusing Obama's attempt at inspirational rhetoric by taking it out of context.

This is bigger than jomama realizes and is clearly Obama's insidious way of creating his personal civilian military corps of brainwashed indoctrinaires ending in a dictatorship. It all starts with control of our right to travel...TSA...connect the dots people.
