I know Dwight will win, but LeBron is playing great d. That effort against gasol was pretty good. He can play 1 through 5 and do well on anyone .
Most versatile defender in the league by far. Dude shut down Gasol with ease. Wish Bosh was there, so Bron would have a crack at Kobe.
He or Tony Allen should be if you really take a look at how they control their matchups. No way Dwight should've won all these years in a row.
I was lol'ing so hard when Gasol got fronted by Ler'bon It felt like 08-09 when Yao was getting fronted by Portland
No... he's not DPOY material. Maybe all nba 1st team defense but not DPOY. Serge Ibaka and Dwight are way ahead.
Yes, he's an absolute bull at 6'8'', 260 lbs w/ the ability to lock up not only elite wings, but cat-quick PGs and uber-skilled PFs. Truly is one-of-a-kind. Over the last couple of decades, we've been blessed w/ the opportunity to watch ELITE perimeter players like MJ, Kobe, and LeBron. Awesome.
Blocks, rebounds, post defense, and defensive impact. I think both of those guys mean a lot more to their teams defensively than LeBron does, not that LeBron isn't good defensively. I'd also rank Noah above LeBron too.
^^ What about guys like Tony Allen, Avery Bradley, prime Battier/Artest? You always value big men more than guards? So it's more about team impact than individual performance?
1st-team All-Defense: Rajon Rondo Andre Iguodala LeBron James Serge Ibaka Dwight Howard Honorable mention: Tony Allen, Tyson Chandler.
http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/stor...sappointing-kevin-durant-mvp-midseason-awards ESPN seems to think so. I've see Ibaka, he has a great impact on one of the best teams in the league. I think that's how the award is handed out. For wings to win it, you have to absolutely dominate defensively and show it sort of like MJ did. Pippen never won it but he's prob one of the best defensive players in the last 20 years. It's just really hard to see a wing win it. All those guys you mentioned are great defenders, especially on-ball. That's why a guy like KG was looked at more in 2008 for DPOY than even Shane who was arguably the best perimeter defender in the NBA. Anchors on defense definitely get looked at more.
Replace Rondo with Allen. Not sold on Ibaka either as a 1st teamer. I might go with Gerald Wallace or Josh Smith instead.
^^ They should make definite criteria for all these awards so that the people finally know how to vote right, it's annoying.
Lebron is the best defender in the league and probably the best wing type defender of all time. I'm 41 and have been watching nba since I was like 9 and I've never seen a guy like him. Mj was a great defender, but he couldn't guard magic in the finals.
The fact that Ibaka only plays a little bit more than half of a game eliminates him from winning DPOY. You have to go with other guys who plays more for their team => has more of an impact. It would be a nice change to see someone else win it besides Howard, but that guy is still a beast. He will most likely wins again. Lebron has grown to be a special defensive player. He has shown he can shut down every position from 1-5. Shane was never as versatile as Lebron; he guarded wings primarily. Lebron anchors the Heat defense. That's something you can't say about other perimeter defenders. You have to watch Lebron on a consistent basis to see what he does on defense. Dude is EVERYWHERE, guards every position at one point or another in every game. Dude is having a special season defensively.
I'd go with Paul Milsap. Ibaka is a flashy weakside defender, but I don't even think he's the best defender on that team. Perkins is as good or better than ibaka as a positional defender that takes up space. Milsap is a straight up beast. I actually think that you could put Lowry or Conley as a first team all-defensive guard. They are very close.
