I think it's an unfortunate coincidence that this problem happens after your car got keyed. Someone has it really bad for you?

The bad thing is even after you fix this, unless you address the rodent issue, which is going to be very difficult in this environment, it's most likely going to happen again.

ATW is on the money. You have a rodent getting into your engine compartment and chewing on wires.

The proper fix is to replace the entire engine wiring harness. Probably about $500-$700 for the harness and another $500-$700 for labor, if not more.

Call your insurance company. It should be covered subject to your deductible.

People on a Ford Fusion forum are saying a new wiring harness is only around $400, so hopefully that is true. I contacted my insurance company to see if it is covered. I reinstated comprehensive and collision yesterday, so I doubt the claim will go through.

Yeah your insurance company will probably catch that. Reinstating a policy and then reporting a loss is a huge huge red flag. Otherwise, it is definitely a covered loss under comprehensive.

You may be able to find someone that can repair the harness. If you are in the Houston area, I can give you a recommendation.

Unfortunately I am in Baltimore. I'll likely have to pay for a new harness and the few hours of labor reinstalling it, and the cost of a new sensor.
