Anybody else dealt with this? I just got my blood panels back from various tests trying to locate the source of my chronic exhaustion, aches and pains, and it turns out I have maybe one of the lowest levels of D on record. My doctor told me I held the record as far as he knew and I've not been able to find anyone online, after several hours searching, that has a level as low as mine. "Normal" is something like 30-100 units but to be healthy one should have readings around 50 at least. Mine was 4. This makes sense because I am very rarely exposed to sunlight and because I am vegan; both major causes of D deficiency. Just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this. It is a relief to know what's been causing these awful health problems for so many years, because now I have begun aggressive treatment. Even so, it typically takes people who are down around a reading of 20 about a year to get back to normal. And, again, I am a 4. Just looking for other stories if they're out there.
Kale, Broccoli, Collards....Fortified Soymilk or Juices maybe? I don't know any personal stories. Go out for a walk in the sun man, we need you around as long as possible.
At least you know why you were having problems. I had my blood tested, suspecting anaemia or vitamin D or something deficiency, but found out it was my testosterone that had inexplicably cratered. So now you know what you need to do to treat it, get back to some semblance of normal.
Here is what I googled. https://www.google.com/#hl=en&safe=....,cf.osb&fp=89c23c73c73127de&biw=1366&bih=667 I was going to pick one and post it but I thought I'd let you pick whatever appeals to you. Looks like there are some related experiences out there.
That's very encouraging, thanks. I'm taking 50,000 twice weekly, so a little more than you did. But to hear that you got up from 14 so quickly is really encouraging. Thanks for all the other posts as well (especially my friend Malcontent). Thanks even to the one that told me to be normal and eat meat. I know it would be healthier for me, but I don't want to be healthy that badly. I will take care to go out and get some sunlight though.
Speaking of rickets, vitamin d is crucial for bone and muscle health. I'd ask your doctor about its effects on your bones. It wouldn't help to pop some tums every day while getting a vitamin d recharge, and once the doctor gives the thumbs up, some exercise regime focused on strengthening your bones more.
It's funny because when I was hit by a car and had my tibia and fibula snapped in two, they weren't healing properly after surgery. In fact I was losing a lot of bone mass. My doctor told me to quit smoking (which I did until I was healed and then started back up like a fool only to have quit again 8 months ago) and to take over the counter D supplements, which he said would probably help and certainly couldn't hurt. And I did that, for what that was worth. Eventually the bone grew back, which the doctor attributed to not smoking. But all that while I was losing bone mass and in danger of having the screws in my hardware pop out -- not to mention not being able to walk without crutches for nearly a year -- they never tested my blood for Vitamin D.
there is a condition called hypoparathyroidism which also deals with Vitamin D deficiency. prescribed medication is concentrated Vitamin D. Rocaltrol, Calcitriol or any generic. otc, OS-Cal 500 + D is a good vitamin supplement. ask your doctor about dosage.
Seriously.. Go outside and get sunlight, 15 minutes is the bare minimum. You have over come a number of health and personal problems, mixing in some sun is a small chore compared to what you have already done. The meat issue is for another thread, we have debated this before... But get some sun.
