I wonder if the Rockets keep a stat on how turnover prone their players are when they dribble the ball. As soon as Scola puts the ball on the floor from the mid-post, I swear he turns it over like 50% of the time.
The guy gets 3 consecutive double doubles before this game, and tonight he doesn't do so swell and now clutchfans declares that he sucks.
It's not Scola's fault that he's being forced to play center because we don't have one. That's all it is, it changes the dynamic of everything on the court, damn Morey for letting Chuckwagon go. Dalembert is a joke, send his azz back to the Kings for Chuck. Damn I wish we had Kenneth Faried.
Pretty much all of his stats come from the 1st quarter. After that he's pretty much a non factor and liability on defense.
Not really. How can he be so productive in the first quarter and less productive the rest of the game? That would be on coach Mchale.
What you do to DD isn't even fair anymore . Scola can't back players down, box out for rebounds or even catch rebounds when they fall in his hands.
Does McHale deserve some of the blame...yes. Of course. I know basketball. I see that the play calling late in games has Scola coming out to set screens for Lowry when they should be running plays for him in the post. I get that. Im not saying thats not an issue, you were just wondering why people on here are frustrated with Scola despite his stats. I gave you the main reason. Didnt say it was rightful and that everyone one here understands the game of basketball because they obviously dont.
McHale needs to use him right and play him more. Scola has played 30+ mins a game this season only 20 times. That's 20 out of 36 games. In those 20 games in which he plays over 30 mins he averages 8 rebounds a game.
Does he play better with more minutes, or does he get more minutes when he plays better? There is a stark difference between Luis's efficiency in the 1st half and 2nd half. I think our offense flows better at the beginning of the game, and as the game wears on we go more to an ISO or PnR based offense with less flow and ball movement. Lowry's assist rate goes way down in the 4th. These might be contributing to Scola's second half struggles.
Honestly, that question can only be answered by McHale. On the 19th in the win against Utah, Scola played 39 mins. In those 39 mins he scored 26 points and snagged 9 rebounds. The very next game against Memphis, McHale only played him 20 mins. He only scored 10 points and snagged 2 rebounds. The very NEXT game against Philadelphia, McHale plays him 34 mins and he scores 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. That was his first double double of a 3 game streak of double doubles. Explain that reasoning. You can't. Only McHale can. If we use logic that dictates better play = more minutes, then McHale should have played Scola LESS in the game against Philadelphia because the game before he only scored 10 points and 2 rebounds. The fact is McHale isn't a very good coach.
I'll be a little nicer and say that he's just not experienced enough, maybe he should surround himself with a couple more specialty coaches to help out, like Mike Brown.
Adelman wasn't going to be the coach forever. On that note, I wonder if McHale's offense, whatever that may be, is dependent on a legitimate low post threat. Scola just worked more efficiently in the motion offense which we no longer have obviously. Now he looks like he lost 5 steps. We have no one who is dependable down low, thus, the jump shooting team we have now. If only we had a spaniard and Haitian controlling the paint.
It's the stepping out of the way of defence that really irks me.... unfortunately, that can be said of most of the team, it's like everyone is afraid of contact - unless they r planted and can flop that is... Box out for Gawd's sake! We make enough ticky tack fouls all night - how about a couple good hard ones to prevent a layup or dunk!
I have loved Scola for years now. I will always be a huge fan. It isn't the lack of defense or rebounding that is bothering me the most, it's the way he operates in the offense. Everytime gets the ball he looks to make a move or shoot. Many times it just results in a turnover, or a missed shot. Very rarely do you see him pass the ball. I understand that we don't have true go-to scorer, but he's become a black hole on offense and is absolutely non existent on the other end. Christ, even Bargnani is snagging more boards than him. Really wish we could have swung him for Pau... His value is quickly depreciating...
You're using flawed reasoning here. Mchale goes with the hot hand. Scola played more minuted before because he was hitting his shots those games. On others, he played like crap and so he was benched in favor of Patterson/Hill. As a coach, nothing is easier than allotting set minutes for your starters, you just say they'll get 35 minutes each and let them play. However, if you're invested in the team and you want them to win, then you prepare for the game, study tape and then actively sub players in and out trying to always go with the hot hand. That's what Mchale is doing, which is why we're making the playoffs this year. That's what RA ISN'T DOING, and that's why the wolves will miss the playoffs this year.
The reason why no one listened to you is because you are clearly wrong. And if you think that Scola's problem is a "lack of skills," then you are clearly wrong here as well.
Just curious.. yall think we'd win or lose more games if we brought these 2 fellas back? Me, not sure, but games would def be more exciting to watch
