I went in December 09. I didn't remember any construction of traffic on i-10 in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. Left Houston at 3am. Got there around 8 pm? 9pm? Driving south in Florida felt the worst part of the trip. Knowing you were close but still far away.
completely agree with this. you get to pensacola and think you're almost there...you're not. that's the worst part of the drive. Prince, i got your email and just responded.
Same here. I repped my Rockets stuff. In fact, they were in Orlando the week I was there. We lost... so yeah. I even got the Texas Longhorns back in Florida.
I haven't had any problems on I-10 in three or four years, certainly not enough to make me want to detour to I-20. That could be dumb luck, I don't know, but this is a drive I make quite a bit. It is a very, very easy one-night drive although I have driven straight through. I usually like to spend the night in Biloxi. I'll go to the websites of one or another of the nicer casino hotels. They usually offer something compelling and I have had the good fortune to have been upgraded to some fairly dramatic rooms for no apparent reason. I like the IP but the Hard Rock is OK for what it is. One thing I do like to do when I have time is get off I-10 at Pensacola and detour along the coast through Destin all the way to Apalachicola. You can either pop back up to Tallahassee there or continue on state highways to Ocala. As for food, well, it's pretty rough going through there once you leave Louisiana.
You don't want to hit Baton Rouge at rush hour (@5 hours from Houston depending on which side of town you live on and how many stops you make). I-10 goes down to 1 lane at 1 point and that can be brutal if you hit it at that time.
so you'll be in Orlando 2 hours early . hope we could join you mate.... enjoy your vacation and be safe.
85 isn't in effect until the signs are up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_in_the_United_States#85_mph_limits
^ Nice. ZOOM ZOOM. UNder the limit, I mean. Anyone know where the (nice) rest stops are on the way (I 12, I 10, etc.) to Orlando?
