In retrospect, there are always players that we should have traded when they were at/near peak value. e.g. Should have traded Battier/Brooks half a season earlier. Tried to move Scola and Martin for Gasol and Nene.

This year, I believe we face a similar situation with several members of our team.

Imho, these are the players we need to sell now to get peak value

-Patrick Patterson: He is only in his second year and has proven himself to be a solid contributor. The problem is that we've seen enough of Patterson in the last 2 years to know what he is. He can be a good starter in the league but will not be an All-star level player. His projection is similar to Udonis in that he can be a good complementary PF to a dominant center. Definitely a sell high because I think that he is still coveted around the league. He is still in his rookie contract so that increases value as well. I feel like we know who he is at this point in his career. His is very similar to the Courtney Lee situation in Orlando after his first year. He was a solid player coming out of that first year with pseudo-"upside" when we look back because he is essentially the same player today as he was back then. If we can gamble on a semi-all star caliber player like Iggy for Patterson and plus, then we should definitely jump on it. Patterson's trade value will never be as high as it is now. I also feel like DMo is the PF of our future.

-Goran Dragic: Dragon has the capability to be a starter in this league. He has this controlled chaos thing going for him in that he forces action on the court. I understand that he is an unrestricted free-agent after this season but I think that moving him would allow Twil to finally get some burn as a backup pg. If a team is willing to over-pay for his services, I definitely think that we should not hesitate to let him go. I would make sure he goes East though (hopefully to a team in the playoff hunt so that it can help our NYK pick) because I am certain that he will be a difference maker on the right team. We also have Llull as an option next year.

Many moves out there. Not many teams who are smart enough to get better unfortunately. They all think oddly they have some sort of shot at Deron Williams and Dwight Howard when they dont. I dont understand it. Its like teams are content on sucking and not getting some of these playoff bound young guys to make a deal with us. I am content with keeping them and maybe building with them as part of the team as starters.

If we build on the likes of Patterson as our future, we will continue our trend of mediocrity for another generation.
This has got to stop. At some point, you just have to gamble big. That way you either win big or lose enough to get a high lottery pick.

I know but other teams who have worse records are not even buying in on our young talent either. That either on Morey or their bad front offices continuing to be mediocre. I think its a little of both. These guys are very good players on many other teams.

How do you know? The trade deadline is in two weeks. That is when the vast majority of all trades happen during the season. Will you at least allow for the trade deadline to pass before assuming nobody wants our players?

    facts about Twil...

    1) needs to have the ball in his hands to be effective

    2) has been looking to be more of a facilitator in the little time we've seen him play

    3) has the handles and court vision to be the primary play maker of the second unit

    4) has good lateral quickness. can switch with Lee on defense if need be to guard the opposing SG instead.

if Dragic is dealt and we are faced with Twil vs Flynn, then I am absolutely certain that Twil would be a better option.

cleverly disguised scola and dragic for gasol trade. And If i'm the lakers, I'd do that in a heart beat! Dragic can play defense too.

Just fighting back the hopes getting up this time. That way I am pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed like last year.

That would be interesting, but someone else has to take t-will's place when he leaves. He already profdesssed his desire to leave after the season regardless of what happens. He is not happy here.

Based on what? The small sample size we've seen from both in a rox uniform? I would be a little leery to say that T-Will is without a doubt a better option at PG. Flynn had a nice rookie year especially for a very young PG. So good infact that the Pacers had offered the 10th overall pick for him. (Paul George)

I am not a Flynn hater by any means. However, I know for a fact that Morey believes TWill>>Flynn regardless of position. The reason I believe he can play the PG spot is because he has the skillset for it. His physical attributes would create monster matchup problems for opposing teams because Twil can bully most players his size and smaller.

Fair enough. Remember, Morey doesn't always get his way(Adelman-Twill) and I think McHail likes Flynn a lot. I'm not a Flynn or Twill hater. I think they both have potential.

McHale did seem to complement Jonny ALOT. Almost to the point of where it was like reverse psychology or positive energy channeling cuz I definitely did not see why he was deserving that kind of praise. I think that McHale believes the potential is (was) there and that he was trying to instill some confidence in Flynn because that kind of unreasonable swagger as Kenny Smith would put it, is part of the reason why Flynn was so successful in college. Confidence is a make-break type of thing in young players. If you lose it at an early stage, then you might never recover. Look at Kwame.

At what point do we stop gutting the team?

With the amount of unused depth on our team, it's obvious we have never gutted the team at all.

The OP has some good points, might be time to cash in on Patterson. We haven't seen a big surge in his production that makes me think he is All-Star bound.

Wouldn't be upset to keep him at all either.

Be Honest who here thought Kyle Lowry would be an all-star PG couple of years ago. He proved me wrong because he was given a chance. Give P-pat a chance, I think he has what it takes to surprise all of us.

Another team has to want Dragic and Patterson first, and willing to offer a good deal.

On top of that Morey is under orders "not to tank." So even if he is getting good return, but if they are all prospects and high draft picks causing the Rockets to drop out of the playoff hunt, Les would be angry.

What non-prospects/draft pick return are willing to take, because I have strong feeling what you want is not what will be offered this year.

Definitely. With a shot that's so money from midrange, it's too hard for me to believe he's already reached his ceiling.
I'm always wondering why most of his touches are as he's posting up. We should play to his strength in his short to mid jumpers.

Patterson??? He's only had one off season as a pro. Give the kid at least 2 to work on his game before he's closer to a finished product. Probably closer to 3. He'll be 25 then and in his prime.
