I just got back from a twelve day whirlwind business trip and saw a crapload of flicks on the plane: Ides of March - 7 - better than I expected, great actors in it, but the whole "you can start a war, you can bankrupt the nation, but you cant bang the interns" speech was dumb. Midnight In Paris - 8 - surprisingly good movie. The dude that played Hemmingway was awesome. Real Steel - 5 - fun to watch, totally cornball and predictable. Tintin - 6 - I think I would have liked it more on the big screen. Moneyball - 8 - the book was better and Jonah Hall doesn't exist. Otherwise, cool flick. Super 8 - FIRST HALF: 10 / SECOND HALF: 3 The French Connection - 9 - deserves the praise it gets. Season One of Portlandia: The first episode is awesome (10), the rest are in the 6-7 range.
9/10 - The Artist - I wanted to watch The Artist before the Academy Awards tonight due to the buze surrounding it, and I must say it exceeded my expectations. I was kind of skeptical of a movie without voice, but I can't imagine this film being shot any other way. Original well done movie, and I found myself emotional interested in the outcome of the main characters. It was better than Descendants and Moneyball so I think it should take Best Picture. Best Director is a no brainer.
Just got back from watching "The Godfather" and WOW!! 108,678,354,743 / 10 Today Cinemark theaters had a 1-day showing of it to celebrate it's 40th anniversary. Francis Ford Coppola supervised the restoration. IMO, this is the best film of all-time. To have the opportunity to view it at a theater was incredible for me, given my current situation in life. The Godfather II is coming out April 19th, 2012 for one-day only like this one was. CANNOT WAIT!!
I wish I'd known! I would have seen it in a theatre in Austin. I saw the film when it first came out at a theatre, of course, but many flicks today, like The Godfather, that are tremendously important films, are films many younger folks haven't seen on the big screen. They've seen them on DVD/Blu-ray, or on a cable channel, but that's it, unless it's a revival, like this one, more apt to be at an art house cinema. In my opinion, there's nothing that tops seeing a great film in an excellent theatre, with topflight projection and sound. My father was a film addict who took us to the drive-in at least once a week, and to an indoor venue on the weekends. We easily saw 100 films a year. Looking back, I guess I was pretty lucky when I was growing up.
Restrepo on Netflix: 8/10 Really good war documentary that takes you straight into the action and behind the scenes at a place that was deemed "The most dangerous place on Earth" which is Afghanistans Korengal Valley.
Season is 2 is not bad, season 1 is amazing. I got to a couple of episodes into season 3 then just stopped watching it.
I found out the day of through Facebook(of all places!! I "liked" The Godfather, so it came up in my news feed). I immediately began to look up showtimes in the Denver area and found only one theater showing it like 25-30 minutes from where I'm staying. I'm still figuring my way around Colorado so I went early around 1pm to purchase the 7pm ticket. Incredible experience. I was the youngest in the audience. Also, it was my first time going to the movies ALONE! Best. Experience. Ever !! I'm 30 years old, but this movie is timeless. I envy you, Deckard, for being around when it originally came out. As a child growing up, my mother would not let me see it, so my older brother got me a copy of the book. I was hooked!! The first time saw it, I saw it three times in a row on a Sunday!! I'm forever grateful for my brother for that. Seeing it in the movie theater was beyond ANY experience I've had with it. I have the BluRays, DVD's, and even VHS, but nthey do not compare to what I experienced. It's one of the few films I completely immerse myself in. Terrific cast and to match such a amazing book. And the theater i viewed it in was amaxing as far as audio/video is concerned!! So crisp! Fron black levels to Luca Brasi's squeeky footsteps as he walks into his murder scene! I've learned a lot about life in general from the trilogy, as corny as that sounds. Art imitates life, life imitates art! Ha! Counting the days til April 19th, 2012 for number 2. I was told it wasn't shown in the NY/NJ area. Shocking to say the least! Not sure about Houston/Austin.
Despicable Me 8.5/10 Seen it before, but watched it again this morning with my kid on my lap. We both laughed out loud..........I needed that.
Season 2 plays out more like The Fugitive. Not as good as season 1 but watchable (same thing someone earlier stated). William Fitchner's character is introduced in season 2 and he is an awesome actor.
Safe House - 7 out of 10. Lots of action, good performances by Denzel Washington, Ryan Reynolds, Sam Shepard.

Friends With Benefits 3/10: The entire 3 all come from seeing Mila's cute ass and some side boob action. Timberlake sucks ass at acting and he should stick to as many low budget films he can get his hands on before he does another big screen gig. Conan 2/10: This movie besides the action/blood and more uncensored boobage was so bad I couldn't even finish it.
i am going to go out on a limb and say that was a body double and not mila herself been a lot of movies i have seen since i last posted but the last movie i saw was Puss in Boots -6.5/10 -- it was a cute family/kids movie it has some funny moments and all but seem very formulaic to me. I was entertained so it still worth the watch but i dont think i'll ever watch it again for sure.
