I have a good feeling about this year first regular season game starts in a little over a month. Hopefully we shock the league this season. Gotta stay positive. Can't wait.
I am as well. I don't know about the shocking the league part, but I can't wait to look at all of the young talent
Most excited I've been since 2007, which isn't saying a lot. 07 was the last year i saw us as a contender, but as that season dragged on the bleak future of the franchise set in. It's been 4 years saying it's still gonna get worse. Well now it isn't gonna get worse, we finally bottomed out and are headed back in the right direction, Might still be a few years yet, but the franchise is improving and most of the players have the potential to be part of the future, not just old retreads playing out the string. Schafer,Lyles,Martinez,Paredes,Altuve and all the other youngsters may not amount to anything, but they may. Our farm is better than it's been in a decade, and should get another big gun with the first pick. Also it's early yet, but i feel we may have our first competent GM since Hunsicker. 5 years of watching the hopeless freefall, and it finally feels like it's over.
I'm excited about the future, but this year, not so much. The lame duck status in the NL is going to aggravate me all year. Still gonna watch the hell out of em and root my brains out for em. Hopefully by some miracle, we shock the league. Go Stros.
Reality is we're terrible But how ridiculously cool would it be to win the NL and then swagger off to the AL
I'd be a lot less excited if I didn't see that (finally) good moves are being made toward the future. I'm excited about the youth movement across the organization and look forward to seeing these young guys play in the bigs. It's not about wins and losses for me this year; just happy to see some new blood. I've downloaded a Corpus Christi Hooks app on my phone and will probably look at it more than the Astros app. I think some of the re-treads (Livan, Duke, Cust, etc.) are really just holding spots until after the ASB while some young guys get some time in AAA. I look forward to the 2nd half of seeing guys like Lyles, Weiland, perhaps Clemens and (dare I say) Springer get some time in the Show.
What would make me happier than anything in the world is to watch the Astros make the playoffs, along with the Brewers, and have the Astros beat the Brewers in Game 7 of the NLCS. A more likely scenario would be to sweep the Brewers in what is the 2nd to last series of the season, knocking them out of the playoffs. Wouldn't be a bad consolation prize.
I don't see Springer making the roster even in September. That rarely happens, and when it does, it is usually a very polished pitcher. Springer is considered a raw talent despite being a collegiate star. They are tying to catch lightning in a bottle with the re-treads, especially Duke. If you are over 30, the team will likely try to trade you.
I stopped being an Astros fan the minute they officially announced they were going to the American League.
I'm excited, though as soon as I get excited, I get bummed out again about next season and the American league. But I will enjoy this year for what it is. I can't wait to see how the team does.
Baseball is my favorite sport so I'm without a doubt excited for the season to start up. Here's a list of Astros related things that excite me this year: 1) Watching the prospects. Springer, Santana, Cossart, Singleton, Ovando, DDJ, Villar, Armstrong, Clemens, Folty, Oberholtzer.. The Stros finally have some prospects worth following. 2) Watching the youngsters adjust to the big leagues. It will be a fun year seeing what guys like Martinez, Altuve, Lyles, Castro, Sosa, Weiland, & Paredes are really made of. If just 3-4 of them stick as above average major leaguers I will consider this year a success. 3) Final season of Carlos Lee. You're a nice guy Carlos, and it's not your fault that the old management signed you to a team-lousy contract, but I can't wait to send you off into the sunset.. 4) Upcoming trades. I expect the Astros to aggresively shop Wandy, Lee, Myers etc.. at the deadline. Maybe we can add a few more prospects to watch. 5) Cheap tickets and bring your own food to the ballpark. New management threw a bone to the fans because the team is expected to be lousy this year. As always I'll look for corporate discounts and share them with you all. That's all for now. I'm at work.
I agree with you re: Springer. I'm just excited to have a some good prospects coming up and I think he's going to be good. Maybe a better name to throw in there is Singleton, although I think he'll really have to rake to see any time with the Astros this year. Maybe a cup of coffee just so he can see some ML pitching before he spends some real time as a DH next year? Heck, he could even be the opening day first baseman on 2013...sure would be nice.
I'm always excited about Astros baseball...about going out to MMP to watch games. Also excited about the 50th anniversary stuff...the old unis...and really excited to see what direction they go with logo/unis/colors next season. Part of me wishes we were just heading to the AL this season...feels kinda lame duck. But it will be fun to watch them finish up vs. the NL in the 50th season. I'm planning on being there for the final game of the season.
I'm just excited to have seemingly competent management and a future for a change. Very impressed with what I've heard from Lunhow. No more patchwork rosters filled with middle of the road players.
