Are you playing a semantic game and saying Ron Paul did not receive the $1.7 million personally? Cause Thiel certainly donated that much to a pro-Ron Paul SuperPAC.

Because thiel is really horrible politically. He's one of these adolescent ayn rand jag-offs who basically has devoted his free time to recreating Rapture from the game bioshock. I don't have any interest in living in his objectivist wet dream universe and I doubt you or most non-crazy people would either. Bill Maher is your standard California liberal. He's made some dumb statements about vaccines and medicine but that's about it as far as openly being stupid. He's much better (and much funnier) than Thiel. Why are the Libertarian Koch brothers bad? Well, considering that you take every opportunity to distance yourself from them I don't need to explain that one. But anyway - what about Soros? Agree, Soros' currency speculation can be pitched as destabilizing (though an objectivist wouldn't think so...and would celebrate him.) to foreign markets, but his non-commercial activiites are generally pretty laudable, open socieites, democracy, human rights etc. The Koch's (other than glam-charity projects like Ballets, performing arts etc) tend to devote their "non-profit" political activities into one that directly align with their self interest - i.e., allowing them to put mercury in your water and tax themselves less for doing so.
