The whole police profession has always been corrupt. Its been this way in every country and in every point in history. Its pathetic really. As a law abiding citizen, I'm more concerned about being victimized by a cop more than a criminal. At least I can legally defend myself against a criminal.
I seriously think there should be an IQ test and every cop should be required to go through anger management regardless of their mental state. Usually the ignorant cops are the ones that end up pulling crap like this.
Some (not all) PD's perform an advanced psychological evaluation and many give polygraph tests in order to become an officer. I know a couple of people that have gone through the process. It's not easy to become a cop in most cities. Ironically it is probably easier to become a cop in the cities that nobody wants to be a cop (ie Houston). That said the process is not perfect (it is the government after all) and there will be bad seeds that slip through even the best hiring practices. There will also be towns with terrible hiring practices that are full of bad seeds.
Lol lets not generalize all cops to be bad. You wouldn't last a moment if there were no cops to help you if you are in a severe accident, or if you were held hostage by a gang member. Save the bashing for only the extreme instances of police brutality; keep the generalizations and the ignorance to yourself.
If you're going to decry this as a non-extreme video then why are you giving me extreme examples? LOL.
THIS. Don't be ignorant people. The same ones bashing the cops are the same ones calling the cops when they need assistance. There are corrupt people in any job. People just like to bash cops more.
Show me how this statement isn't true. I've known over 10 cops personally in my life from family members, to college friends, to coworkers. The stories they tell me are amazingly consistent. Don't turn on you own and if you jack with them, then you are going to the hospital. I've no several Austin PD officers tell me that the only reason physical beatings doesn't happen as much anymore is because of the dashcams.
My father was a cop for 10 years and I also know a lot of cops through him. They are good people and their stories are amazingly consistent as well. They gave me no inclination of them being corrupt. They do their job. Are they perfect? No. But they make society better than worse.
Most cops just want to go home alive at the end of the shift and not have to hang over. It's just a job but it can be a tough one. Over 100,000 cops are on duty at any given time. There's a video like this one (which I didn't even watch) that pops up every so often. Most are good people that are just making a living.
I've watched the video now. Do any of you know the complaint process? That video is obviously edited and only shows the view the editor wants to show.
Houston PD Internal Affairs Website Houston PD Complaint Form (also available in Spanish) Took me longer to type this post than to find those. Doesn't seem tough to make a complaint in Houston.
I don't care to speculate how many bad cops there are, but I will say that they should be held to a considerably higher standard than other professions. Even a whiff of corruption, abuse of power, or otherwise inappropriate behavior should be grounds for an IA investigation, and confirmation should result in immediate termination of job and pension.
Certainly not right, but if you're walking into the belly of the beast, you'd better man up. In this case, the kids are clearly intimidated/scared. The cops reacted to that. Again, not the right way to handle it, but I've seen it myself. This is how cops treat teenagers.
Most videos that show cops in a bad light really piss me off, this one, not so much. I don't really see the issue here. Other than the one cop that arrested him for no reason. Some of the others just have bad attitudes but that's about it. I've dealt with ******* cops before but I've also had a few help out. So like with anything else, there are a few bad mixed in with the good. That being said, I still don't like cops for the most part.
I don't get the people who want to bash cops all the time. I don't have a lot of experience with cops (keeping fingers crossed), but I've met more good ones then bad ones.
