I don't understand why fans are fed up with Morey attempting to improve this team.

I find it rather odd that many fans here are frustrated that the Rockets are pursuing trades? I do understand the aspect in which you can't connect to the players as much because they might be on their way out, however that should never take precedents over improving the squad.

Would you rather have a GM just sits on his a$$ all day and be content with a mediocre team? It makes absolutely no sense for fans to tune out because our GM is attempting to improve this team. The team first and foremost is what we root for, not individual players.

I personally respect D.Morey for leaving all options open in order to improve this team. If you know that you do not have a championship caliber team you must leave all options open. Why would you go on the record and make statements such as "We aren't trading ____" It makes absolutely no sense to put yourself in a corner like that. In conclusion we should be happy that our front office is willing to make the tough decisions in order to improve the team we all root for.

Morey is doing a great job. NY got 2 super star players but had to gut their team and are worse than the currently the Rockets are. Miami got 3 super stars but did not win a championship. When we had both Yao and tmac we failed because we did not have a good supporting cast in early years. Morey is trying very hard to get an all star player without blowing up the team. We're just a piece or two from being a contender. I don't think anyone could be doing better than him.

You answered your own question. You also stated that you don't agree with it, but you know the answer. People want to connect with their team's players. It's difficult to do that when you don't know who will be around 3 weeks from now.

I had this same problem at the beginning of the season. It was difficult getting excited about the season ahead. But after a while, I started seeing things that get me excited about this team. And I'm making connections to players that may or may not be here on March 16th. That becomes a feeling that is frustrating to balance with knowing that the GM should do everything he can to improve the team. I've finally come to terms with it. But I accept that others have not.

I don't think there's a fan here that doesn't want the team to get better. It's a matter of how each fan thinks the team should get better. There are those that believe that ever trade should be considered, and then there are those that think we have a pretty good team now and that all we need is time to build chemistry.

You know why fans are fed up with the GM attempting to trade away players. The next step is to accept it.

I think he's doing a heckuva job. Listen, we were screwed by Yao and T-Mac's contracts, thats a fact. In the past two years, he's gotten us out of those contracts and into contention to sign a max contract player next year. NO we didnt tank and we probably wont draft an impact player in this talent stocked draft. But at least we're not the Wizards....... Given the circumstances, I'd say he's not doing too shaby at all. MOREY FOR PRESIDENT!!!!

I stated a reason as to why some may feel compelled to hate on management however the reason makes absolutely no sense considering we are Rockets fans first and foremost. If you are a Rockets fan then you should be thrilled that management is doing anything and everything within its capabilities to improve the squad regardless of attachments to an individual player.

I don't think we have finished better than 5th in the West since Rudy and we have a decent shot at pulling that off this year. That is an accomplishment in itself.

If you are fed up with the Rockets pursuing trades...you are an idiot.

The ONLY 2 teams in the league that shouldn't or don't need to be pursuing trades are the Miami Heat and OKC Thunder.

You asked a question and then answered it in the same post. You don't think the answer makes sense. But it is the answer.

Fans are fans for different reasons. One fan gets attached to players, and another may not. That you don't have a problem with getting attached to a player that gets moved at the trade deadline is fine. But to say that it doesn't make sense that another fan does have a problem with it is not accepting the answer to your own question.

You'll feel better and be much less frustrated once you accept that some fans like forming bonds with the players on their team and thusly feel slighted when those players are constantly being moved or threatened of being moved from season to season.

You're fighting it now for some reason. But the answer is there. And it makes as much sense as you wanting your team to improve through player turnover.

I think there is a difference between (1) being "upset" with the team for trying to improve its talent and (2) understanding that the team must turnover its roster, but still feel less connected to the team and its players due to such turnover.

For me personally, my brain understands that Morey is doing what he has to do. However, emotionally, I still don't feel so good about, for example, Chuck Hayes being let go.

Having fans feeling less attached to a rotating cast of players is part of the cost of "rebuilding"--whether you are trying to do it through the draft or through trades.

If the Rockets gets a star or two (like what they once had with Yao and McGrady if they had stayed healthy), they can afford to keep their "core" more stable an even retain some of the role-players long term (like Derek Fisher for the Lakers).

So a fan's emotional response is directly tied to their mental maturity?

I'm glad it's so easy for you to make generalizations like this. The world really is that simple, isn't it? [/sarcasm]

And offering up insults to people that disagree with you is definitely the way to get them to agree with you. [/sarcasm for real this time]

Some fans are fed up with player turnover because they are emotionally attached to the players or want to be. They're trying to balance emotion with sensibility, and are letting their emotions take over. If you don't understand that now, then you may never make sense of it.

I think most would agree that maybe DM needs to be a little more sensitive in his statements... Yes, players and their contracts are assets - but you dont say it that way...

Really if there are only 6-10 players that he would swap Lowry for, and none look to be available - then declare him untouchable - good pr.

It might be DM is too open to trying to make a deal and let's everyone know it...as we are referred to as 'the quintessential 3rd team.' I mean if yer a GM and DM calls, do you scamper to get to the phone - or let it go to voicemail and see what his latest offer is later...

I love the job Morey has done, but maybe he needs to play things a little closer to the vest... knowhutimean... ;)

    Stern agrees with you:mad:

If that trade went didn't get veto'd we'd be a top 5 team in the entire NBA.

All teams should be pursuing trades. Unless your roster consists of the top 15 players in the world and you go 82-0, you can always get better.

If Miami ever got Dwight Howard or a great PG, they could be unstoppable.

OKC should look at offers, maybe for a backup point guard.

No one would be complaining if the trade had gone through -- assuming the Nene signing was imminent.

The real problem is that after two years this team still has no direction.

I agree with this sentiment, but it just seems like every thing we missed is directly and indirectly linked to that one veto'ed trade.

Fans wanted Hayes back, if I recall correctly Morey was begging Hayes' agent to wait since we urgently wanted to get him back after the Gasol deal. The deal got veto'd, and we got no Chuck Hayes

Same for fans wanting to deal Martin, Scola and the "assets". Even Jeremy Lin signing.

Although we are having one of the better seasons in a while, it just seems like the moment Yao and T-Mac's contract came off the books, Stern threw us another burden that we won't recover for in a while.

He did do, Stern veto'd the deal. That's not something anyone could ever prepare for.
