What cap space? With Melo, Stoudamire, and Chandler they're capped out for years. What they need is quality depth at non-wing positions. Lin can't play 48 minutes and retaining Dragic via restricted free agency is much better than signing some minimum vet for PG depth
You do this trade.. Quit thinking about 'helping the knicks' and think about this from the Rockets POV. Shumpert can be our first round pick. He is first round talent, from his defense alone. Plus, he's on a cheap contract for a few years.
I think Morey would view his talent in the same regard as Terrence Williams but without the lockeroom issues. Again, if he's on the table for nothing but an expiring contract, its the kind of low risk/high reward small moves Morey has been trying to make the last few years. This move also solves alot question marks going into the summer if they are not able to keep Lee in free agency. If they are able to move Martin, then they should have the cap space to resign Lee with Shumpert, and if they DONT move Martin, which is more likely, they can let Lee walk and allow Shumpert to fill Lee's role with the hope that he might be the one low risk/high reward player to take the next step. That being said, I dont think the Knicks move him. This is all speculation, and considering he's only a rookie, he's shown some real promising things in New York. At his price, I think the Knicks keep Davis as Lin's backup going forward.
3 pages on pure speculation. There was absolutely no word on if the Knicks are even shopping him or not...
If offered, I can't see Morey turn this down unless he thinks we can make a run at the championship this season. The following reasons make it a no-brainer. 1. Dragic would leave at the end of the year or get overpaid 2. We have Llul to cover the backup PG next season 3. Lee becomes a RFA, and could command some major dought 4. Shumpert is really really cheap as a low 1st rounder 5. Getting Shumpert makes KMart more expendable without hurting the team depth 6. Shumpert is young and has skills. His chucking and penchant for bad shots is more of a Knicks thing Overall, I don't see the Knicks doing something like this. But from our standpoint it's a no brainer.
Must be missing a television in the NBA room at the ESPN offices. Gogi is averaging more minutes this year than he has his whole career and has been quite productive. If anything, his star is as bright as ever. If only ESPN would get off of Lebron and Lin's nuts for just 1 second.
Why would we NOT do this? Shumpert's proven himself more than capable at this level, he's on a cheap rookie contract for the next few years and he can play either guard position. I don't see the Knicks reasoning behind this but Shumpert would be awesome. Screw Flynn getting minutes, by the way.
I had this same conversation with a Knicks fan this afternoon. I still think 'Antoni would push for a Gogi swap. I have rooted against the Knicks in enough games this season to see Shumperts potential. This would be a better haul than most people are giving credit.
Count me as uninterested unless we get something else back. I have no interest in a guy that can't shoot playing on the perimeter. I'd rather work a deal somewhere else (LA?).
I would do Dragic for Shumpert straight up. Dragic's looking to start and get paid, whereas Shump is on a rookie contract. This is the best scenario
I'd hope you'd get more but I'd only do this trade if Martin or Lee is getting traded too. Otherwise, no.
