Wait, this thread will be spoiler-free right? Cause...you know...it says Season 2 in the title so it should have nothing to do with the book right...

I spoiler tag anything that hasn't been on the screen yet. But I can't speak for everyone.

They should of changed Osha's name. She is a much smaller character.

I suspect they may be expanding her role though. Still no Reeds cast...

they could have ended it at 3, and I expected it to end at 4. I honestly don't know how 5 can be better than 4. Breaking Bad is probably the best show I've ever seen.

I'm currently reading storm of swords and I have to say that up to this point Osha has been just as pivitol and in more chapters of the books so far. Asha did not even appear until almost a 3rd of the way in book CoK.

I have read all five (not to play big dick with you or anything). I am quite sure Asha is far more prevalent, but it's been a few years since I went through most the books.

Yeah, you really get the sense that it could have ended after the fourth season. It felt very conclusive. And apparently they weren't sure they were even getting another season, which would make sense.

I'm not actually sure what they're going to cover in the final fifth season. They seem to have resolved all of the most pressing issues already.

Anyway, enough of me contributing to derailing this thread. We have a Breaking Bad thread already.

At this point, I envy your ignorance...immensely. To be able to enjoy the books again from a fresh perspective would be awesome.

Wouldn't that be nice? I think all real book-lovers have wished for selective amnesia at some point. For myself, I at least seem to be blessed with remembering the broad strokes of novels while forgetting many of the details fairly swiftly. Makes re-reads more enjoyable.

One the other hand, I don't much envy the ignorance of what he's got left, because I didn't like the fourth and fifth books that well, anyway. They weren't bad by any stretch, but I think most would agree that the first three books have them beat by a fair bit.

    BTW, crash5179...

...has "it" happened yet? And if you don't know what "it" is, then the answer is "no." In any case, tell me what you think when "it" happens. Always fun to hear the reaction of the new guy.

I'm the exact same way. I always considered it annoying since I couldn't remember things during conversation about the books. But I had never considered the other side of it. I've read the Godfather and Dracula 8 times and it's still great to me because I will have forgotten so much it can still 'surprise' me to an extent. I know the gist of the story but I'll have forgotten some cool events or cool dialogue.

I've read many oh-****! moments in the book but I guess I have not gotten to "it" yet. I've read about Arya finding out that she is actually Harwin's captive instead of just a family friend, Tyrion being engageds to Sansa, Robb beheading Karstark and Jamie getting his hand cut off but I'm guessing your talking about something much bigger.

BTW, I think my favorite chapter in all the books so far might be when Theon (not realizing he is talking to Asha) is seriously hitting on her only to find out once they get back to the castle that She is actually his sister and was playing him just to see what kind of person he was. But there have been so many great chapters in the 1st three books I could change my mind tomorrow.

So far CoK has been the best I think but GoT and SoS are both spectacular as well. Of course I have not finished SoS so it could still be my favorite by the time I finish.

Yeah, you haven't gotten there yet. You'll definitely know it when you do.

And yeah... so many cool chapters and cool moments. I think I particularly enjoyed Tyrion outsmarting the hell out of everyone in the first half of book two, especially when he gets over on Pycelle and banishes Slynt to the Wall. Hilarious. I also liked Jaime's whole transformation in book three, and his pairing with Brienne.

I think book three seems to be the general consensus choice for best book in the series, but you'll have to judge for yourself when you finish this one. Kind of a sharp drop off after that the third one, in any case.

For readers, how do you guys think they should handle filming for the next book? I'm almost certain it will be renewed for another couple of seasons, and I think most would agree that ten episodes won't be enough for ASoS.

I could see them doing something like this:

Film seasons 2 & 3 together, covering ASoS in its entirety, and releasing them in two 8-episode Spring/Fall seasons, then dedicating two full seasons to the content of Feast and Dance (maybe a stretch since Dance is pretty long too).

That would give George around three years to finish Winds of Winter in time for writing/filming for Season 6 (provided the series lasts that long). I'm actually optimistic that the next book won't take nearly as much time as the last two have to write.

With out giving anything away, it looks from the previews that they may have placed some things from SoS in the second season.

the book gets really explicity. This isn't a spoiler since its just a minor event but it goes to show how evil the mountain really is:

Goes into a bar with his men. His men start hitting on the owner's daughter and pulling her skirt and what not. The owner goes to the mountain thinking he's all knightly and asks him to tell his men to stop and that his daughter is no w****.
The mountain tosses a coin in his face and goes. She is now.
Throws her on the table and rapes her as she wiggles like a rabbit and has each of his men take turns.
Afterwards he goes back to the owner and goes, I want my money back, she wasn't worth it.

I know times back then could have very well been like that but exerpts like that just bother me.

Thats 1, thats 2 thats 3! I loved Tyrion outsmarting everyone else in CoK especially his interactions with Cersie. It's not as evident from watching season 1 just how much hate there is between Cersie and Tyrion. The books hold no punches in this respect. I don't see how they can tip toe around that fact in season 2 like they did in season 1.

Other great moments in CoK that I loved was when Renly was meeting with Cat for the 1st time and bragging about his army when he gets word that Stannis has sailed on to Storms End. I can't wait to see the expression on Renly's face in the series when this happens.

I was a bit surprised at how few chapters were given to Danny. All important but it just did not seem like a lot. I was shocked at how bad of a person Theon turned out to be, what a sorry ass he turned out to be. But I enjoyed reading his chapters a and the transformation he took from one of Robs sworn men to what he has become. I had him pegged as a younger version of Jamie at first but now I just think his life is about to turn to crap.

Jamies chapters have been great so far and I love the relationship between him and Brianne. What a cocky ass Jamie is but great chapters to read. Like Theon, its obvious life is about to change for him.

I'm roughly were Crash is in his reading. The parts he's mentioned, I've read.

Unfortunately, I've spoiled myself. I know what "it" is. I saw the Comic-Con panel where the show creators said they'd be happy if the show lasted long enough to get to "it" and they gave initials for the event. Well, that was too much for me and I couldn't help myself and found out what "it" was. So I won't be able to give an honest "Oh, ****!" reaction when I get there which will be in about 300 pages.
