he is saying gasol is "hall of fame bound" please tell me i'm not the only one who thinks he is crazy
They are raping us again but who knows? I say let Morey do his job and see what he has in mind with Gasol and Kevin Martin starting. Might be a decent team.
I might be more excited about a possible Gasol trade if he wasn't so ugly. On top of that, he seems to be a weak-minded player who only plays well when things are going his way. Ov-er-rated, clap, clap, clap-clap-clap.
wait, replace lowry on the court? i thought it meant replace lowry in the trade, ***** that. Lowry is 25, gasol is 31, lowry makes 6 mill, gasol makes 19 mill, gasol is declining, lowry has not hit his prime, both put up border line allstar #'s this season but yet lowry AND scola for gasol seems to be even? ***** no...
This is the real link to the what the OP quoted. http://www.nba.com/bulls/news/smith_120227.html The source is Sam Smith who is now a writer for the Bulls website.
Right? Not even. Only in Laker land is getting a prime guy for their old declining players fair trade value. Then throw in another starter for them too.
On basketball reasons alone No. but maybe he's contributed otherwise that I can't think of. First Spaniard in the NBA?
I'm kind of on your side about not trading for Pau but your logic makes no sense.... I read a lot of shallow posts like this and you're the lucky candidate to get me to get on my soapbox to prove that basketball at this level is far more complex than what your above post would imply. 1. You compare age That's nonsense because Pau is probably in better shape than Kyle today and with Kyle's size, he HAS to remain in premiere shape and maintain his athleticism to be effective, especially when he is Gasol's age. With Gasol's size he can get a little fat, he can lose a couple inches off his vertical and still be valuable. Age when comparing a smallish guard to a 7 foot big man is shallow. You don't see guards the age of Rasheed Wallace getting contracts... Kyle Lowry is no Ray Allen.... he doesn't take care of his body well at all. There is a possibility that Kyle doesn't get to reach his prime... you assume too much.. the older Kyle gets the more important conditioning will be and his dropoff could come early--we never know. 2. You compare $$ That's also nonsense because you pay a premium in the NBA for established big men, everyone knows that. A guard getting his first non-rookie contract isn't comparable to a 10 year vet with multiple all star appearance and 7 feet of skill. Also, look at Scola's contract who would be included in any Gasol trade. So the question is, "Do we put an extra $8 mil in our big men?" and I personally think putting Pau in our rotation is worth an extra $8 mil just because of how many players would take a MLE to come play alongside Pau and he offers true versaility at playing the 5 that McHale tried and failed with Scola (that's worth a couple mil at least). There is a reason big men get paid big money.... because every draft there are 20 guards coming into the league and all of them have a shot to be the next Kyle Lowry and they are cheap as hell. It's difficult to draft 7 foot skill without a top draft pick, it's easier to scout future NBA guards.... the college game translates.... you see the size and strength translation.... quickness is at its peak early on.... etc. Scouting guards is easier than scouting big men. How many non-big men busts have there been lately in the top 5 picks? Morrison maybe? Just a curious question... because there are always big men busts. 3. You say Pau is declining That makes me want to order you NBA league pass so you can watch how the Lakers are playing this year. Pau is a 3rd option, he isn't going 3-22, he is going more like 3-7 haha. I really don't think Pau is declining AT ALL, he is the same player he was just with different court placement. Pau + Lamar is much different from Pau + Bynum every game. Pau is declining just as much as any Euro big declines... look at Dirk, he is declining but his skills are still there and come playoff time there will be no lack of production because of age. Put Tim Duncan in that category.... A 35 yr old big man that can bury a 15 footer consistently is going to see minutes before a 31 yr old slightly overweight and short guard. I'm thinking Tinsley lol. I love Kyle, I want him to stay a Rocket but don't undervalue the uniqueness of Pau Gasol. There aren't many players like him, especially since NBA players are soft as 4 year old girls.
Some combo of Scola, Martin, and Dragic, Flynn, Morris, Bud and picks for Gasol and a filler (Ebanks or something) is the most I would give.
This is the part I most disagree with. The reason guys like Dwight and Lebron are so crucial is because of the value they represent. They're paid 18 mil a year, give or take, but their production is worth far more than that. Especially with the new CBA, cap space is really the limiting resource in the NBA. Kyle Lowry represents that same kind of value - All-Star production (offense and defense) for under 6 mil. a year. That's why Kyle is a premium asset. Not only that, we can expect him to hold his value for another couple years at least. I actually agree that we should trade him within a couple years, but he's worth a lot more than Pau Gasol. Pau just isn't that kind of value. 18 mil for his production is not a bargain, and at his age, we can expect him to depreciate over the rest of his contract. Just because big men are overpaid in the league doesn't mean we have to be the ones overpaying them. If we were in a position where we already had a contender put together and we had a window of a year or two to win it all, then yes, trading for Gasol would make sense, trying to get the last few years of good production he has left in him as we reach for a ring. For a middling team that needs to rebuild? Hell, no. I'd offer Scola and the expiring 09's. If LA wants more than that, they can get lost.
I wouldn't want to give up so much for Gasol..is there a possibility that if we dealt Lowry for Gasol that we would be able to go for 2 max players after that deal? If so could you imagine possibility if we got dwill and howard along with having Gasol! Champs!
what? Your tired of being average. Lol. your going to stay there if we built a team strictly around Lowry.
My point was that you don't compare big man dollars to undersized guard dollars. A 7 footer with skills that don't depreciate with age is not comparable to a guard playing like an All Star 80% of games for a little over a year. I even explained why Kyle is more replaceable in the draft than Pau, etc. and none of that had to do with whether I'd rather have a team with Kyle vs. with Pau. However, the value judgment on Pau's contract is for another argument, I just don't think saying "Kyle's contract is cheaper than Pau's" is a relevant argument. Talking about declining years on one of the last mega contracts for a 2nd tier star is more relevant to me, you're making that point and I respect you for it, the guy I was responding to clearly was not. But following that logic, I guess it makes most sense to wait until the NBA rids itself of these dumb FA contracts and start showing the league why nerd basketball can make a championship, that will take us 4-5 years at least if we run from aging contracts today. Not a bad argument to make, just curious if that's what you think is smart?
If it was Lowry + Scola for Gasol and we got Martin's salary off the books without taking any salary back, then yes.
