when you pick up a pizza to go and use a credit card do you all leave a tip. I feel liek I am throwing away money doing this.

Same. I don't tip if they're already doing what I'm already paying them to do... which is make the food and hand it over the counter.
I give a buck to the Sonic kids just because they have to come out to the car but I wouldn't feel too bad if I didn't even do that. Tipping at Starbucks is similarly stupid.

If I go pick it up? No. Same as going to fast food, IMO. I only tip the delivery drivers.

I'm tired of the random tip jars I see nowadays. I tip but I'm not going to tip everybody.

If you can't afford to tip close to 20% going into a restaurant you are way too poor to be eating there and need to stick to lower end meals anyway.

I really don't see why, they make minimum wage at least. Bunch of BS that does places also accept tips.

I sympathize with the banker. Why should Americans subsidize the cost of labor rather than the business owners? That being said, this type of protest only hurts the person serving you.

If you want real, industry-wide change, become rich and donate to Congress to bring about legislation where servers are paid fair wages.

How much do you tip the tip jar on clutchfans particularly for the first time?

I got through college waiting tables so I guess im a lot more liberal with my cash in situations that can involve tipping. You don't know unless you've been in the trenches.

Figured this is as good of a place as any to ask for advice.

A friend of mine (more of an acquaintance, a friend of another close friend) whom shows up to our usual hangout tips literally nothing every single time he comes out. Not only does he tip nothing, but he usually 1) racks up a decent tab (not like he's stiffing on a 10 dollar charge, etc) and 2) when he leaves a zero tip he is very deliberate about it (like circling the zero ten times on the check, as if he's worried the staff will steal from him or something). He's not poor, so that excuse goes out the window (he's probably one of the wealthier people I know). I wouldn't be quite so ticked about it if he went to the bar and served himself instead of relying on people to wait on him and then stiffing them on the service tip. What's worse, I'm more familiar with the people who work at this place than I am with this dude. It's gotten to the point where not only do I feel embarrassed and ashamed to be in the same service party as this guy, but the staff is starting to look upon us less than favorably because of this guy's actions/presence.

Any ideas on how to deal with this?

What do you tip at the BBQ place? You know, you go through the line, tell them what you want, drinks are self serve, and still there's a tip spot on the check.

I'd have a really hard time hanging out with him again. I always avoid going to places with bad tippers since it makes me look bad. I remember I went to eat out with my cousins once and none of them left tip. Unfortunately, I wasn't the one paying that time and I had no cash on me. From then on, I knew not to go out with them, or simply carry cash whenever I am with them.

I hate the idea of tipping in this country, but it's part of our culture therefore I try my best to tip as generously as possible, usually 20%.

Those places I usually tip 0-$2, depending on my mood that day. I don't understand why they should get tips if they are at least getting paid minimum wage.

I usually just tip $2-3 dollars regardless of the cost of the meal, but I rarely spend more than $10-15 anyway.

This is exactly like me. I really hate the idea. I'll rail big time about it in threads like this. But in the end I usually tip at least 18% and usually 20%.

I usually carry about 200 cash with me, but they're almost always in bills of 20 or larger, and because I pay with a credit card for everything, I find it very awkward to get a car wash, I typically choose the $20 wash from Mr. Car Wash, but I always feel so bad for not having a couple bucks for the guy wiping down my car.

In China, we never tip. Lol people just do their damn job and we just pay however much it costs.
