    natural selection at work.

we want more hot chicks around, ergo we give them resources so they can survive and possibly produce more hot chicks.

Funny this thread is bumped. Seems like every new business adds a tip line to their receipts. There is this place I get breakfast from in the morning. All I get is an iced tea and a thing of scrambled eggs. They want a tip?

We take the dogs to this place to get groomed every now and then (bathe at home usually) and the owner is the one who does the grooming. Charges a pretty penny to do it and then puts a "tip" line on the receipt. Um no. You get to charge what you charge because I think you do good work. I'm not tipping you extra because you did a good job. That's why I pay you to begin with! Drives me crazy.

You pay for drinks in Vegas?

A long time ago, I was playing in a band at some club across from Numbers (the mausoleum?). I went to the bar to get a drink and tried to get the bartender's attention. She said "hold on, I have tipping customers to take care of."

Really? I was ordering my 1st drink of the night. How could she know whether I was planning on tipping her or not? I was planning on tipping her (like I always do), but with that snarky remark, I felt no shame in giving her exact change for the rest of the night.

Luckily, that dump went under shortly afterwards. Hopefully she didn't catch on anywhere else.

    Has this happened to anyone?

I was out with my girlfriends at a restaurant for a dinner a while ago. There was 5 of us. We get our bill and we noticed that the tip (18%) was WRITTEN IN, not PRINTED and the gratuity rule was only for 8 people and up (we doubled checked). We asked the waiter why was the tip written in and he said he wanted to make it easier for us. I got offended BIG time. It is like saying we don't know how to tip! I scratched it out and gave him ZERO tip. He is lucky that we did not ask to talk to the manager. If he did not do that, I would have gave a 15% tip as usual.

That's never happened to me and I understand your frustration. I probably wouldn't have left a zero tip though. How nice was the restaurant. I hate to think that a bus boy got stiffed because the waiter was an idiot. I probably would have talked to the manager. Not criticizing you though because I can understand your frustration.

Happened to a group of us once. It was pretty much as if I was being descriminated against. Needless to say, I made sure the waiter no longer worked there, especially after he tried to change his story and lied to and about us to the manager in an effort to save face.

I can see a bartender getting tipped for mixing a drink, even though technically that's just their job but I know a portion of their salary are tips. But why do they get a tip for reaching down, grabbing out a beer, and popping the top? Same tip amount even since the cost is about the same.

Just got back from honeymoon in French Polynesia, (Bora Bora), and tipping is not expected there, a lot of the receipts you cant even add it in! Anytime they did get a tip, they were extremely appreciative and recognized it everytime we saw them again.

As you can imagine, everything is ridiculous expensive there, and by habit I still felt like I should tip something. Ended up giving around 5-10 bucks each meal, but those are on 150-300 meals!!

It's pretty common overseas because the waitstaff is just paid a normal wage, tipping is a very American thing.

You think she meant that she had to take care of people who had already tipped ridiculously generously? Either way, hate the system. I tip pretty liberally at bars, mainly so I don't get shut out by bartenders.

Kind of have to if you want to do any actual drinking, I'll usually start with a $5 buck tip then maybe a buck there after.

This thread bump reminds me of what a great poster Rocketman95, and how he's missed. Why is that Googrux guy taking credit for all of his posts now?

I usually just put in a buck in a situation like that.

And if there's a couple of people we round up to the nearest dollar.

LOL! If you're going to be an a-hole about something like this, at least make an attempt to make sure you can't be traced! Dumb. A$$.

Did he really NOT know 10%, or did he clearly mean to leave only a 1% tip? What do y'all think?

Are you supposed to tip at Freebirds? I never do, but as soon as I don't tip the cashier always shoots me a dirty look.

10%? Cheapskate. Don't you know it's been arbitrarily raised to 20% nowadays?
