do you get lean or moist? i think thats another way they can tell if you know your bbq or not - real connoisseurs go moist. as for the sauce, you are right that it isnt bbq sauce - its more of a marinade - if anything, ill dip my brisket in there before going into my mouth. brisket if usually top-notch and their sausage is good too - jalapeno-cheese is the real deal. my biggest complaint about them is that the sides are kind of pricey - other than that i love the food, atmosphere and people there. great place. like watching the bats under congress ave. bridge, the only time i go there is when out of towners want to go. dont know - i havent driven that route in over 10 years. any meat should be fine for the car ride - the only thing is that the oil from the meat will leak thru the bag and your car will reek like bbq smoke (which may or may not be a bad thing!).
i like smokey moes. i eat at the one in cedar park about once a month when im up there for work and there is one on bulverde rd. in far northeast san antonio that i also hit up when im working there.
If you want some really, really good brisket, try out Texas Que on Airline and Patton. Its new, I tried it out last week and ive been back twice. Their cook is the 2010 Rodeo cookoff brisket champ. I'm telling you, it will not disappoint.
I thought you already tried Snow's. Have you ever been to Franklin? If not, you should try that one - try the ribs. I used to say the best ribs I ever had were in Oklahoma until I tried the ribs at Franklin. The brisket at Snow's vs. Franklin is a toss-up. The 2 best briskets I've ever had after trying I don't know how many BBQ joints in my lifetime.
It doesn't matter. My brisket is better than any I've tried from a restaurant. However, I've never had Franklins, Kreutz's or Snows. I will try theirs someday when I have a morning to spare and see how mine stacks up.
Been to Snows four times...can't imagine Franklin's being better then Snows. Friends always wanna go to Snows, but I do want to try Franklins in the next few weeks.
Tried Luling City Market last night..Not bad. Brisket is good and sausage is amazing. Thought there sauce was a little on the sweet side. I'll just buy a bottle of sauce from Rudys and use that with Lulings brisket from now on, and I probably wont feel the need to drive out to Rudys then. Was pretty impressed though, still I think Rudys is better. Luling has better sausage though
Yo, Slick, blow.. It's drivin' me out of my mind! That's why it's HARD for me to find Can't get it out of my head! Miss her, kiss her, love her (Wrong move you're dead!)
If you ever go to Franklin, the brisket is great, but the ribs were surprisingly good. I've never had ribs that good. Oh, and you have to get there early and wait in line.
The best time to hit Franklin is mid-week. Bounce for lunch a little early, and show up around 10 on a Tues/Wed. Bring good company and a few cold brews to help pass the time... then feast like a king.
I was at enchanted rock yesterday and stopped by Coopers on the way back. Wow, it was awful. Brisket was salty and had terrible texture, and the ribs and chicken were undercooked and tough. I'm guessing that they were running out of meat early and had to throw some stuff quickly in the smoker. It was probably the worse BBQ experience I've had outside of places like Chili's or Applebees. To me, Rudy's is the benchmark. If you can't make BBQ better than a gas station chain, then what's the point.
5 pm. There were lots of people there enjoying it, which makes me question my taste buds or all the people that claim to be BBQ experts.
