Nissan GT-R. He was told to avoid universal body shops like Maaco. He went to the dealership and one of their guys referred him to a boutique body shop that had the OEM paint. Apparently it was more expensive because it was a special metallic color, and if the car had more years on it, it'd been harder to match and blend the new paint to the old one.

No, it was some nut cutting into cars on the block. There was a jeep with a NY plate outside that had about 6 Xs scratched on. I am going to slip out of the hospital early today to get an estimate from the body shop.

If the damage is only $350, then you pay $350. With a deductible, one is responsible for everything under that amount.

Here's a question: I got in an accident last month and used the "Accident Forgiveness Vanishing Deductible" thing for Allstate. Does that mean I have met my deductible for the year or do I still have to pay a deductible for my next claim this year? If the former, I have a few little dents/scratches from someone parking into my car I'd like to fix.

Just call and ask your agent. No harm in that.

$1400 to fix. Might as well buy a new car with that money.

How many panels are keyed down to steel? You might try a couple of shops. My son's car was rear ended by a friend and we got estimates from $500 to $1500. And I've had work done at the $500 shop before and it was very pro-looking so you don't always get what you pay for - though I've had work done at Maaco in the past and even the "best" paint is crap.

If that is still too much you can get a paint pen online. I've had better results using a pen (vs a brush) for scratches like that. Be sure and buff the area down first so you can see what really needs paint and what just needed buffing. It will look better (though not perfect) and will protect the car some from rusting (though that might not be a problem in your area).

So I have noticed that since I last posted another dozen cars have had terrible scratches involving all 4 panels. I know a few of the people across the street who was affected of the new batch of cars. Given that changing neighborhoods is not an option right now, how would you guys go about figuring out who has caused the thousands of dollars of paint damage to the cars on the block. There is one house full of hoodrats, and we are a block from a major street (although a two way at this point) through Baltimore, and sometimes you have to park a few blocks away to get street parking.
