Garnett was traded to win them a title, they took a camble on a 3-4 year window to win titles. If the Gasol trade would make us injuries aside, the clear cut best team in our conference for 3 years, then yeah, but a 31 year old to go from 6th-9th to 3rd-5th is just bad.
While an 8th seed has made it to the finals the lowest to ever win was us as the 6th side so history does show that you do have to be a top 1-3 team to be considered a contender
Rafer to Lowry Carl Landry to Kevin Martin Vassilis Spanoulis for Luis Scola Lateral moves for the Rockets.
True, but it's much easier to be a 1-3 seed when you're already a 3-5 seed than to build from top picks. I'd rather take my chances with making upgrades to an almost-contender than to build from scratch hoping Lebron/Duncan lands in my lap.
With a 2-3 year window at most, there wouldn't really be time barring extreme luck to go much further. That short a window is really only conducive for the "we got the best team around for a cpl years" route. You want a 5+ year window if you're going the "we got home court in the first round" step.
Improving yourself to that level with that short a time frame, you may as well call yourself the Atlanta Hawks, they've perfected being just that good.
Boston was pretty bad during most of Pearce's career before KG arrived so I don't know that I agree that they had much an inclination that they were about to become the clear cut best team in the eastern conference for three years. Anyway show me the list of 25 year olds in this league who are ready to put a team on their back and lead them to the NBA finals. Lebron and Dwight I guess managed to pull it off but it's a very short list. You might want to consider the possibility that that standard is... I dunno...... just a tad bit high?
I don't see Kupchak getting Scola. What I believe is that this Scola can't help you anymore at the highest level, and they're still trying to compete for a championship. I don't think Scola is a championship player anymore (at least as starter), and I think that every GM in the NBA knows that at this point. I hope to be wrong.
Lateral moves?.. I assume you mean the team constantly has won 40+ games.. But you left out the fact he lost 2 franchise players under 30. What superstars did Morey fail to get that he should have? He almost got DWill but couldn't trump Favors from NJ. He had Gasol before Stern stepped in. Melo was only going to NY.
Ray Allen said in interviews that he and KG were talking and agreed to do it together, did Boston realise that adding KG and Allen to Pierce would make them the best team in the East? I think anyone with an IQ over 50 saw that coming. It might help if you read what I said though, I said if you're going the "first round home team" route, you need to do it 5 years+ out, what that means is that you get an extra 2-3 years to go on the "hey these guys are right on the edge of contention" to find that additional player to push you over. If you do it with 2-3 years max, by the time you reach that stage, it's over and you've achieved nothing.
Are you kidding me? Basically everyone predicted them to win the Finals in their very first year. They were the Heat before the Heat. And btw Boston repeatedly made it out of the first round and even to the East finals once with a buncha garbage players around Pierce, they knew that he could carry a team, especially in the clutch.
the world would be a better place without rushlimbaugh, I hope you only listen to him for entertainment/shock value
Agree. KG, which I believe was a better player then then Pau is now, couldn't win anything by himself. The Celtics already had 1 all-star in Pierce. They added KG AND Allen WITHOUT losing their stud. So it took all 3 studs to bring home 1 trophy. Even DWill and Pau is not nearly enough to compete for that short window and the remaining parts are going to net you much. They may be slightly better than they are today, but that just means we'd be picking in the 20s every year instead of the mid-teens.
I would do Dragic / Scola for Gasol. If the Lakers want Lowry then I would want Bynum. While there is no doubt Gasol is an upgrade for our frontcourt, his age and contract are not worth trading an up and coming young(near all star) PG with a very good contract. I know they will not trade Bynum but for the same reasons they will not trade Bynum(youth and potential), the Rockets should not trade Lowry unless they get another player with youth and potential.
